Here’s how I rated the Boks out of 10:

Willie le Roux: 6.5

Flair evident several times, including in smart lead-up work to lone Bok try. Sometimes his tactical kicking effective ... but also two or three occasions where he kicked out on the full.

Cornal Hendricks: 6.5

Sometimes you don’t see him for a fair while – often through no special fault of his own – but then he bursts into the picture at vital moments. Keeps getting on try-sheet, reminding of his finishing hunger and awareness.

Jan Serfontein: 5.5

We probably saw enough confirmation that outside centre channel is not his forte; Bok midfield mix must be rethought. One bizarre up-and-under decision with Boks looking stealthy on attack. That said, it wasn’t all awkward: competitive at breakdowns, some moments of deft hand-work and resolute defence in dying minutes.

Jean de Villiers: 5.5

Not yet back to known influence and sharpness after the significantly delayed start to his international season. Needs to go up a gear soon. Some good, some questionable aspects to his leadership decisions on the day.

Bryan Habana: 7.5

The injustice meted out on the veteran wing in his ton-up game has been documented above. Otherwise, razor-sharp from limited attacking opportunities; one sniping in-field break from a Bok lineout steal, and thrilling long-range run from deep on another occasion. Secured a turnover as well.

Morne Steyn: 5

Until the vital last few minutes, things weren’t going too badly for the recalled flyhalf. Mostly landed his goals, and showed some tackling tenacity and flashes of hand skills. But Steyn loses a full point on our card for the way he unravelled in closing stages – that failure to find touch from a penalty was criminal and ultimately so costly.

Ruan Pienaar: 4.5

Slippery, wet conditions seemed tailor-made to his known tactical kicking strengths ... but once again the scrumhalf under-delivered in a Test start. Instead too many of his kicks were inaccurate or wrong option. Sluggish at passing, too. Some moments of alert defending.

Duane Vermeulen: 8

Tops our card as Boks’ best player in game they should have put to bed despite the officiating where he, like Habana, was done an injustice by Clancy. Consistently robust, constructive performance for full game and really got into Aussie faces.

Marcell Coetzee: 7

Did plenty to assure that, although his game is rather different, he is more than capable blindside stand-in when Willem Alberts sidelined. Strong engine, and big supplementary factor  – especially early on – in the pilfering department.

Francois Louw: 6.5

Gripping breakdown battle was one engaging area in otherwise mediocre clash; Louw was usual sprightly self, though more personal carries might have been useful to cause.

Victor Matfield: 6

His vast leadership experience in the area helped stabilise a lineout that went pear-shaped too often in Salta, but not especially assertive elsewhere and made one irksome error in being in front of the kicker at a kick-off.

Eben Etzebeth: 6.5

Not yet back to his A-game as he feels his way back from long injury absence this year. But he’s a restorative work in progress. Honest graft in tight-loose -- and some fine front-of-lineout steals.

Jannie du Plessis: 7

Best Test in some time for the battle-weary tighthead, who found reserves of energy. A couple of fabulous right shoulders in scrums, and upped his tackling and general work-rate elsewhere.

Adriaan Strauss: 6

Competent showing, as you’d expect from this seasoned pro. Accuracy at lineouts a pleasing feature. But does he have the aura of the normal first-choice man at hooker?

Tendai Mtawarira: 5

Still nothing like the force of old, either at scrum-time or for once-famed surges in open play. It’s a concern.

Standout substitute:

Bismarck du Plessis: 7

If this 19-minute cameo off the bench did one thing, it was confirm that Du Plessis must start against the All Blacks for the sheer “presence” he brings. Gave great breakdown power and energy in his short stay, and responsible for precious late turnover under pressure that should really have been Boks’ passport to victory if only they’d kept composure

One question with the above ratings - did the  Springboks win or lose the match?   They lost - the above ra tings have no bearing obn a lost match.   On average all the above ratings are 1 or 2  points higher than players deserve.  Ands in some cases even more.
Take for instance the defense of players.   Morne Steyn missed as many tackles as he made - but complete silence on that one.    One would gather from the above that Morne's tackle stats was satisfactory - it was far from it.
As to Matfield  there is no evcidence that the Springbok line out went pear shapd at Salta.  Matter of fact the Springboks took as many line outs as they did this week.   De Jager took 6 line outs at 5 - Matfield  4.  The difference was that last week the line outs and a driving maul orchestarted by De Jager resulted in a try being scored.  This week the driving mauls ended up in disaster or went missing altogether - the key reason fpor disappearnce being Matfield.   Not especially asseritve is an euphenism used to hide his poor tackling record  and non-existent ball carries.
Jannie gets high praise for scrumming - but where did the penalties he gave away came from - if not from scrumming?   There is ahideous effort to cover the fact that the scrum was unstable - he ahd two reasonable strong efforts - the rest of the scrumming was a mixed bag ranging from below par to poor.
High rating for Hendricks whose defensive lapses are in the spotlight.
Go to rugby 365 and you get a much more realistic assessment of the players than this highly one-sided hiding of facts.     If anybody looks at the actual  match statistics he  would realize why the Springboks lost the game.
Wonderful to be delusional - and Mozart live in his very own delusional world.      .

Morne was the worst player on the park and deserves the lowest score. Aimless kicking and an unacceptable number of tackles missed. I'd give him a 3.
Matfield and Pienaar were next in li ne 4 ' s at best.

Actually these ratings come from SARugby Mag....hook, line and sinker. In your haste to attribute these opinions to me, you totally missed the obvious..it was a formal article. Waaaaaaaaahahahaha .....a little sting. What a plank.

That was not what you stated orginally - "Here’s how I rated the Boks out of 10:"
Now lets get this tstraight - here I was sitting at home being depressed by the witless performance of the Springboks yesterday - until iI saw those ratngs and realized - oxzart lifted muy spirits incerduably by his ratings ofteSpringboks players - it must be a victory - everyone else was wrong - we did not lose the game.
However, I should have known better - you would search the internet until you comne across ratings that would tie in with your ow beliefs  - but really  the scribblings is entirely according to your style  of writing and your own deluded ideas witghout regard to fccts.

Hook, line and sinker. You can't even tell the difference between a posting and an article. Here's the start....perhaps you will restrain yourself in future you dumb old fool. STUNG

Cape Town – It will come as no consolation at all to Bryan Habana that he rated the most dangerous Springbok backline player on the Sport24 scorecard in Saturday’s controversial 24-23 Castle Rugby Championship defeat to Australia in Perth.

As it happened: Wallabies v Springboks

VIDEO: Duane Vermeulen's HUG tackle on James Slipper

There is a mounting jinx attached to Bok players celebrating their 100th caps, as the Boks increasingly find themselves playing second fiddle on such occasions to mar the milestone - ask John Smit and Percy Montgomery.

It was no different here.

But what makes Habana’s ton-up game especially mortifying is that he was on the grossly rough end of a yellow-card decision against him by Irish referee George Clancy at a key late stage of the contest when South Africa held a commanding nine-point lead and looked for all money like grinding out an imperfect, yet just about deserved win.

His desperate 66th-minute tackle on a flying Adam Ashley-Cooper was a little high and did merit a penalty, but was in no way malicious ... and the amazing thing was that Clancy still saw fit to brandish the card after a TMO viewing only seemed to confirm the player’s innocence.

It was the second time in two Championship seasons that the Boks have had their big-match - and by extension possibly title - chances crippled by lamentable officialdom: the Romain Poite/Bismarck du Plessis flashpoint against the All Blacks in 2013 comes to mind.

Earlier, there was the added irony of another standout Bok player on the day falling foul of Clancy’s eccentricity when Duane Vermeulen conceded a (duly goaled by the hosts) penalty for a ton-of-bricks but legal tackle on James Slipper.

That said, the Boks were also their own worst enemies in many respects for not having the nous or cool-headedness to close this one out when it was so invitingly there for the taking ...

Here’s how I rated the Boks out of 10:

Willie le Roux: 6.5

Flair evident several times, including in smart lead-up work to lone Bok try. Sometimes his tactical kicking effective ... but also two or three occasions

You claim you are so wise -- but clearly knows nothing aboiut interpretation of law.  The ehading plays a critical role ain that and you used a heading reflecting you as author of the ratings.   That is fraudulent on its own.
Amyway - I was not quoting anything about Habana - so leave that one out.
You have a mind that accepts tripe as facts - anything written by anybody is accepotable and supported by you when it ties in with your deluded ideas - if it does not the writer is condemned by you.
The day you come up with motivated, realistic assessment of player performances and not false statements on same - that is th day when you would come up with somnmething original and of value.   In the emantime your contributions is one huge blank in value.

mornes miss tackles was pretty bad, but his boot was very deadly and we should all know by now that when morne is in the team, its for his masters degree with goal kicking and nothing else, so i guess u can say its a pass.

i thought serfonrtein was a defensive giant against the wallabies, the dude somehow manges to generate a lot of power for a frame which just shouldnt be able to do that.
meyer has been such a fool to not invest proper game time into serfontein, but maybe the next Bok coach will after the All Blacks win the 2015 RWC.

pienaar is proof that meyer dosent want to lose the incompetent tag.
IMO Boks are better of playing with 14 men then a full 15 which includes pienaar.

vermeulen would be the best No8 in the world easy if it wasnt for keirean read.
reads on top, then vermeulen, then its a good disstance between these two and the rest of the world, and im not forgetting about parrise, morgan, vunipula and other solid No8s, itss just that these two at the moment are heads and shoulders above the rest of the world.

i loved how whittley came on with one minute left and still amanged two tackels, LMAO,
give him more meyer and im sure he wont dissapoint.
seriously though, whittley looks exactly like and old flatmate of mine, insanely uncanny resemblance.

bizzy proved hes still the No1 hooker in the world, prob didnt need to start him against one of the weakest forward packs in the world, but im sure meyer despite not wanting to lose the incompetent tag, will right that this weekend.

lady elizabeth didnt have the same impact as he did this time last year, i hope south africas shining light isnt starting to fade already.

hendricks IMO iss goiung to lock down the No14 just like habana locked down the No 11 for so long.
theres something about hendricks which is just money, a player i really rate.

wasnt de allende on the bench??? did he even play or was he like whittley a one minute player???
he must have had an injury issue or something, cos its just stupid to not use SA form back in some capacity during the game.

Other than Willie, Habana and De Allende - none of our backline players sh owed much in attack - and the finishing of work of Hendricks rotuinely follows on spopace reated for him.   In that Sasue is correct - we have as near as possible to a dead backline at presnet.

Sas great to see you back it's refreshing to read a man who knows his stuff. It's just a pity the SA n's on this board are so blind to the obvious, conservatism rules.
You are spot on regarding how useless Morne and Pienaar are.
Your take on the poor investment in Serfontein is spot on. Now the poor lad is being asked to play 13.
It was obvious that de Allende was our best back in the s15 and instead of Meyer giving him an extended run he discards him to the bench and fails to utilise him.
Your boys are going to smash us next week.
