The Sharks held out against the Rebels, but were hardly convincing. Playing Frans at 10 is a mistake. It was great to see JP back to his best and Mvovo has cemented his claim to a Bok recall this year, but on the wing, not at 15.
Deysel had a huge game and Beast was once again in top form.
The Lions were as good as expected, they were shown up for the average side that they are. Whiteley is the class act in that side - skillful enough for test duty but probably not big enough for a test 8. de Klerk and Mapoe were good.
Wow the Stormers actually won a game for a change. Schalk was great - of all the old players, he is the one I would be happy to see in the Bok set up - forget Fourie, Matfield etc
Taute continues to impress at the back. de Allende has to make the Bok squad, this guy is a class act. I like v/Wyk as well, a centre playing on the wing. Malherbe had a huge game and I loved Vermeulen's dumping of Smith.....it was man vs boy stuff
Bulls vs Cheetahs was a good game......great to see Goosen and Coenie back and both playing well. Wllie is a class apart and to think Meyer has never really looked convinced about selecting him - conservative madness. Why the Cheetahs leave Hendricks on the bench and play the average Daniller at 15 is beyond me. Brussouw once again showed Meyer up in neglecting him.
Marcel v/d Merwe showed how better he is than Werner Kruger and I am a big fan of Paul Willemse, that try of his was brute strength. Hougaard is back to his best and Pollard should start all the Bulls games. The Bulls under Pollard look to play a more expansive game......we saw that with Sefontein making his first nice break in many games.
All in all a better weekend for the SA sides.......but too late for most of them
