Board poll on reffing practice.....give us your view

The ref calls penalty advantage......the team with advantage immediately kicks a high cross kick that goes dead. The ref then: . 1 Says advantage is over. Drop out to follow. . 2 Calls the play back for the penalty. Vote 1 or 2

 The referee' interpretation / perception / discretion of the advantage law is what is at stake here.  Unlike a scrum advantage, this is a serious indiscretion committed by the opposing team.  If the attacking team do not receive any real benefit from the "advantage" awarded them then surely the original penalty should be taken from the original place indicated by the referee.  By not affording the attacking team the advantage they would have had if the static penalty was taken is unfair and manipulative in so far as the outcome is concerned.

It is just playing the odds. In most cases, it will be 2- if a try is not scored. 

Probably the one that gives the penalised team the least advantage . IE the strongest deterrent.

Option one should not even be an option in the case of a penalty advantage.

 2 ,hardly an advantage going dead is it ?

So 6 believe advantage is not over so far....

 Make that 7. Definitely 2 for me.

What if the ball doesn't go dead?

What if it's still in play?

What if the attacking side regathers it and takes it a further 5 phases and has it turned over by the defending side?

Would your vote for a "do it over" still apply?

Do you honestly think that going back 50m is justified?
