from a cheifs point of view this was a very good game with lots of positives, dave rennies boys scored a 4 try bonus point victory while resting a good chunk of their key players.
but there was something i found very very disappointing when watching this match and that was the zero level of impartiality they have when commentating on foul and dangerous play
in the sharks/chiefs game last year when masga ran for the ball and ended up coliding with mvovo, bobby skinhead i mean skinstadt was quick to jump up and down and cry bloody murder making a racial and derogative term about masagas tackle
i know bobby said he wasnt aware of the connotations involved in calling a player of pacific islander descent with his coconut remark (even though hes played plenty of games in NZ and against NZers, i mean I know most of the deroagtive racist insults in SA but ive never been to SA, but thats another thing i guess), so we will just assume he "didnt really" know the implications and just say he was disgusted with masgas tackle.
but when sergeal peterson made a that reckless tackle on messam and ended up stomping on messams ankle. bobby like a true good ol boy passes it of as if it were nothing.
peterson should have been red carded and cited, that stomp on messams ankle hurt messam big time and may have done some serious damage, all because sergal is a puny pussy who couldnt tackle for shit.
i admit it was reckless not intentional, peterson just cracked under messams attacking pressure, but so was messams collison with mvov when he was going for the ball.
bobby and his enoturage just casually brushed it aside making jokes about how it was more like a judo throw then anything.
as of now i have completely lost all respect for bobby, never thought much of the other saffa commentators to begin with, all except for hugh bladden who has one of the best rugby commenating voices but more importantly tries to call a game exactly as it is cos hes a true rugby connoisseur.
tony johonson, greg clarke and hugh bladden are the only commenators i know who can consistently call a game for exactly what it is, giving the proper praise to exceptional players no matter where they come from and condemning those who deserve it no matter where they come from.
