The weaknesses were at fullback and scrumhalf. Kirchner is picked to take the high ball....he didn't. Pienaar's missed tackle on Barrett was the tipping point. This guy is just too slow to the breakdown, too weak in the tackle and too indecisive. - JJ had another invisible game....time to start Serfontein who immediately made a difference. Jean missed a few tackles, but got through a mountain of work. Willie was well marked but left Smith for dead in the Bok break of the game. Morne was erratic on defence and with his line kicks. - In the pack the Beast was killing Franks until the card. Bismarck was huge and unlucky to get a red....but also so stupid in getting the second card. Strauss was solid. Jannie is a liability in all non scrumming aspects....but face it Coenie can't scrum at tighthead....he was in reverse every time. Etzebeth along with Vermeulen were our best. - We remain weak at 15,13, 9, 3 and 5. These are the positions that could change for the home leg.

Obviously went for Coenie - ignoring the fact that we had 6 scrummagers and Kruger - who is worthless in scrumming after Du Plessis' card. Morne's kicking game was aimless and very poor - and his defence was weaker than it was last week. Really not a flyhalf that one can rely upon at all. Van der Merwe did the absolute minimum and Kruger did zilch while on the field of play. Agree with you - Kirchner and Pienaar are waste of space insofar as team selection is concerned.
