Bok Barometer after round 1
Bullshit always baffles brains in your book.
I did not say he was poor - I said he is a lock. He worked hard - but not with too much effect. His tackle count was good - his carries rather ineffective and he gave away 3 penalties. He would not do the latter if he was played at lock.
You yourself said he is a lock - not really a loosie. So now I am speaking shit.
Better than Reinach? Where from - Reinach was beating Hougaard by a mile - and De Klerk was not better than Reinach. De Klerk had some eye-catching ball carries - but he made no tackles and also gave away a penalty. Good start - but n ot an all round scrummie.
I can understand the barometer now - it is Saffex's - that is worth a bag of salt - because he is one-eyed. Surprising selection at 13, but insofar as 9 is concerned - Reinach must be punished because he dared to show up Hougaard.
And I must agree with Mozart - Flip was better than Du Toit in tight exchanges. .
You posted this after the discussion of SA locks though. Was this intentional, a Freudian slip or a coincidence? Lol
Moz, hope to see your weekly reviews again this season .
On the note that PSDT could play 7 he did for the baby boks so he has played there before and he did make a lovely break in the JWC final
What is really wrong with SA Back row is the idea that the no 7 flank must be the parking spot for an extra lock. That is why we constantly come short in key games - where the AB's play three loosies and not 2 like we do. Ultimately it never works out and our back row becomes less effective in most aspects of loosie play.
Mozart
Wrong AGAIN - he played at 8 as far as I recollect. Was Smith and Burger not 6 and 7?
Lets get back to reality. All three the loosies in 2007 had more speed than the low work rate Alberts and the rather slow Vermeulen have at present. And all three contributed to line out play - which does not happen at present. And all three did have the ability to link up with the backline - which only happen rather rarely with two at present.
However, rugby has changed since 2007 and in 2012 and 2013 our main reason for losing against New Zealand centered around two issues namely -
* disfunctioning at flyhalf by Morne Steyn; and
* the AB's outplaying the loosie combination of the Springboks totally
You will shout and scream to the contrary - but Morne was a major problem in 3 out of the 4 tests played. However, the worst problem in all four tests was that loosie combination of the Springboks - they really cost us three out of the 4 games. They would have also cost us the 4th test, but for the red card of Bismarck.
Mozart
"A big power loosie works in NH conditions"
This might have been the case a decade ago - but the requirement at present is that a loosie should be able to perform ALL the functions of a FLANK FORWARD - not only a FRACTION of it. A player like Alberts are of no use in the case of 80% of the normal functions of a loosie - so he would never have made any of the 6N teams as a loosie.
The other requirement for a loosie is a high work rate coupled to a reasonable speed - something we cannot accuse our present 7 of.
Mozart
Frankly if you believe that a player who makes a low number of tackles in a game - often enough missing more than 20% of them - make three or four carries per game with an average gain of 2 meters per carry and does bugger nothing for the rest if the game - you are welcome to him.
I hate to see that our teams get done in by that type of player. One thing is clear - Meyer might put up with Alberts - White will soon enough see he is a liability in the tem and no asset. Another performance like last Saturday - when he did not even enter mauls but moonlighted behind them - will not be accepted by White and he may be bench warming like you and Meyer's other hero is regularly doing for Stade Francais.
As far as I am concerned - the sooner it happened - the better it will be for the Sharks - we will then have three loosies - and not like we have at present - a loafing lock masquerading as a loosie.
Since PSDT has hit the big scene, his strength and physicality has been his standout point.....at 118kg and 2m he is hardly struggling physically. PSDT is one of our strongest and physical imposing forwards.......who would be completely wasted at flank, much like the impressive Jacques du Plessis is being wasted at 7 with the Bulls.
The only reason we might see PSDT at 7 for the Boks, is if Meyer wants hasbeen Matfield at 5.......lets face it, PSDT has double the physicality Matfield ever had.
Saffex
This reminds me of one excuse Mozast had for the selection of Juandre Kruger and Alberts. According to him Juandre is mobile enough and that off-set the lack of mobility of Alberts. So we must play Juandre at lock and have Alberts to provide the power that Kruger lacks.
That type of argument was proved to be bullshit at Elli Park and it will be bullshit in future. You do not need 3 locks on the field of play and two loosies. You need 2 locks and 3 loosies.
I still fail to understand how logical people can come up with rubbish like the comments above.
At no point have I ever said Jean was poor etc......I just believe the youngsters are better and that has always been my point
Then a few of us have the temerity to suggest Stephanie is not as strong as Lood, Flip and Eben....and both you and Clever have major hissyfits.
Can you spot the inconsistency?
Mozart
Wro ng - I have never criticized either Habana or De Villiers - matter of fact I have always supported them. I do not support players with low work rate and who buggers up constantly through under--performance. I do not rate players on one-incident in one game - so your latest hissyfit is taken by me as a joke.
Mozart
When did I not support De Villiers and Habana? Don't use a typing error to get around outright lies.
That was Dave....you are the one that harps on Morne and Alberts. But also on F du Preez, JP, Fury, Jannie, Vermeulen and Louw. Together you guys cover JP, Fury, Jean, Habana, Morne, F du Preez, Jannie, and all the loosies. Simply put, you two together write off the whole Bok team except for Etzebeth, Bismarck and the Beast.
I think you are wring er wrong, but I support your right to be imbecilic.
Mozart
It is impossible to deal with someone that says the following:-
"You and Clever take full advantage of that dumping every day on Morne, Alberts, Jannie, Pienaar, Fury....and yes Jean and even Habana."
What does the word AND imply - it implies that I support the dumping of all of the above players. If you said you listed the following and clever his list - there would be no smear or uncertainty - so lets get it straight- I will help you in this - I do believe that the following should be dumped:-
* The Club bench playing - useless Morne Steyn
* The low work rate, 20% loosie and 80% lock/Prop Willem Alberts
For clearly stated reasons I have reservations about the following for whom replacements should be found sooner rather than later:-
* Despite sound defence - the absence of any attacking play - Jacque Fourie
* The defence problematic and lack of clever play - JJ Engelbrecht
* The need to find a longer term solution to take over from - Fourie du Preez
* The problematic - both in scrumming and defence - Jannie du Plessis
The rest are pure and unadulterated BULLSHIT. I mentioned why the back row misfires - and identified that the problem centers around ALBERTS - nobody else.
When criticizing players I USE TENDENCIES AND STATS BASED ON FACTS - I DO NOT use YOUR METHODS OF -
* using BULLSHIT expressions such as PROCESS PLAYER to detract from TOP CLASS PERFORMANCES;
* ACCUSING players without any imaginable reason of being WEAKLINGS;
* giving FALSE ACCOUNTS OF PERFORMANCES - so as to deflect legitimate criticism from favoured players;
* using ONE INCIDENT IN ONE MATCH as a reason to destroy the image of a player or players.
Let me put it BLUNTLY - I give REASONS for dealing with PLAYERS - through PREJUDICE you do THE EXACT OPPOSITE.
Moz, but your comment on PSDT makes no sense at all.......we all know he has received high praise since his introduction, including from yourself.......now after one game in the S15, a game in which he was good......suddenly he might not be strong enough.......I just don't get it? How on earth do you arrive at that conclusion, what is it based on?
What makes it even more absurd is that last year you were telling us how average Lood was and now after one S15 game this year, he is stronger than PSDT??
You just seem to follow this pattern of changing your tune on players at the drop of a hat and sometimes, like this occasion with PSDT, it makes no sense at all.
At no point have I said you have no right to voice and agreed, it makes for good debate, I was just commenting on what little faith you have in our players, especially the youngsters........you find favour in the old hasbeen's and question the credibility of the new.......you should take a leaf out of your mate Jake's book.......he is very much in favour of the new
