Bok captain

Im the biggest Burger fan, but not as a cappie.

I'd much rather see someone like Bizzie or even Josh be groomed into a Bok captain. Both are natural leaders and both are fantastic players.

I still believe Josh will improve by 10% if he puts on the green and gold.

JDV in my mind is klaar with the Bokke... so he doesnt even come into the picture.

Who else are definite starters for the Bokke??? Then we can try work out who should be cap.

Juan? Not sure if he is a 100% certainty anymore, though i rate him as one of our all time greats.

Disagree with you about Bizzie, he is red card material. Not sure about Josh and like I've previously said our options for cappie is too damn skinny. There was talk of Chilliboy a few seasons ago....would you consider him a starter?

Well jus remember that wee keegan has been made sharkie captain and not Bissie who is VC.

As for Josh - as has been said let him first make the side! Hardly ideal to have a rookie as captain.

I think that the bringing in of players younger than Jean should begin. But I would not discard him yet as he had a very good world cup and is still up to it. We need to blend in the youth seamlessly

Man Chipo you still haven't told me your provincial bias! hehehehhehe. Take it from the Ed - Burger is the future Bok captain and John Smit has endorsed him as well.

Bismarck has to be about the thickest Bok I have ever seen! Certainly not reliable under pressure. He acts on emotion, and that usually is of the negative variety. Given the nature of our hard-nosed style of play, I would strong advise we do not return to the dark side as per Straeuli's 2002 mob. Bismarck would definitely take us in that direction. In truth, coaching the Boks is a difficult prospect, and only a select few could ever handle that responsibility. I suggest Juan because he is a proven leader when a team is in the tightest of situations. He has immense resolve and always leads by example both on and off the field. As a player he probably the most consistent player the Boks have ever had, even running pushing Matfield aside I would say. Schalk has not displayed as much leadership as stated by fans. His reputation is based essentially on 2004 exploits, even in 05 he was much less effective. In the World Cup? He was simply good, without ever truly living up to the hype unfortunately. I say this as a person who has back Schalk strongly over the years, even when it was fashionable to attack him!

I agree that Josh Strauss is the best proposition for Springbok Captain purely based on what I believe are his leadership skills but we have to consider the fact that he is a loosie and there's lots of competition there already from Schalk Burger, Brussouw, Juan Smith, Spies, Danie Rossouw (not sure if he retired?), Willem Alberts and even Duane Vermeulen.

Chippo I don't see how you conclude JDV is "klaar" with the Bokke. He was .....by far....our best back in the Oz QF. If all our other backs need a bit of creatuive coaching, why not JdV. He is still the Bok most likely to break the line against TN defences. Fury by contrast was a total non factor at the RWC.

Play Fransie at 12 and JdV at 13. No centre combination playing the game is better.

Bismark in any leadership role is dangerous. He has a short fuse and loses it when thnings are going against his team. Plumtree is mad to make him VC

Moz, Fury is the top try scorer in the Tri-Nations. That makes him the most likely! Jean, ou plodder who managed to edge the even more diabolical McCabe, is well and truly done. He's been done for many, many years.

Josh for Cappie.

He'll only be a rookie the first few games.

There's a lot of senior players that could help him in the begining.

By the next RWC he'll be an old hand at captain if made cappie now.

I will be watching Josh and the Lions with great interest. However jvr please do not fall in to the bulle mode re making al die bulle bokke! Hahahhahahahaha

Josh as Sa Admin says has huge competition. Duanne Vermuelen isf he returns to fitnes and form is a must for the Boks as is rger. Then we have alberts who was effective. If we play a strong Bok pack Brussouw could come into his own. This now is totally possible as pap victoria has retired and Bissie has taken over from Lardy. With those two out of the way there is a great possibility of building a great tight five.

Juzzy maybe some responsibility and having to be a role model will help Bissie. I think his discipline has been improving.

Have to agree  with Moz re Jean. He was very good  at the WC. In fact with frans back our Bok center resources are very nice thank you. Also he boosts our fullback resources.

Frans Steyn is the one player I really most covet for the Stormers right now.

Wonder where he will end up.
