My ratings for the Bargie test: . Coetzee 7....never put a foot wrong really and beat a team leading 5 defenders . Rhule 5.....effective in space but fragile on defence, a poor effort trying to stop the Bargie's first try. . Kriel 6....couldn't use the good ball effectively, tended to crab sideways . Stepfontein 5....author of the Bargies first try, not much else. . Skosan 6...most metres and breaks, missed half his tackles . Jantjies 6....kicked well, not a huge contributor in general play. . Cronje 6....solid . Beast 7 ....dominated his opponent, fine game in the loose . Marx 8...great on the deck, in holding up tacklers, one poor throw which sailed over Cassiem . Coenie 8 ...a really good test, but the opponent was suspect. . Etzebeth 7...one lineout steal, two offloads, lots of tackles . Mostert 7 ...lot's of graft . Kolisi 6...quietist of the loosies. . Kriel 7 ...good work on the deck, missed a few tackles . Cassiem 7 ...Best of the loosies, graft and very effective holding up runners. . Pick of the subs was Kitshoff who hammered the flagging Bargie scrum

This was schoolboy rugby at it's best, the Crusaders would have blown our side away in the first half. There's no shape although I'm happy to say there's commitment but passing the ball is not enough. Kolisi was MIA in the first half, Jantjies's out of hand kicking in the first half was dreadful and Stepfontein continues to crashball killing all hope of continuity.Although I'm satisfied with the winning margin and particularly happy with the setup of Kolisi's try I'm afraid to say the Boks failed to impress being consistent in shape. The sum total of their parts is not enough to beat the Ozzies or the Kiwis, they obviously need to shift up a couple of gears.

This was not good enough - but as per normal Mozart's assessments are crap and his ratings the same:-
Rhule missed 40% of his attempted tackles and even though he scored a try he was a real liability.   Despite the try a real evaluation of abilities is unsatisfactory so a best range of 4/10 is appropriate.
Kriel was caught by the first defender every time he got the ball - very ineffective in attacking play.   5/10
Serfontein was equally ineffective as Kriel, but that silly kick costing a try makes his rating a 4/10
Jantjies kicking at goal was good - his kicking out of hand not so,   He ran sideways a few steps before popping up the ball to the recipient.   Really a questionable performance with 5/10 maximum.
Beast went down in scrums continuously - but was helped by his prop partner being dominant.   At best he was solid in scrumming - good in defense and not anywhere in attacking play.   6/10 maximum.
Mostert was very ineffective in mauls and his general play was questionable - there was a huge improvement when Du Toit replaced him.   At best 5,5/10
Kriel was effective in all aspects of play.  He can get a 8/10 - basically because of his defensive effort and his role in turnover penalties.
Cassiem was in the main rather invisible - had for a loosie a low tackle count 6/10
The real pick of the replacements were Du Toit (ball carries, solidity in mauls  and scoring of a try) and Kitshoff (demolition of the Pumas scrum) - both deserve 7,5/10

There we go again with another childish comment.
How about stating your assessment and let the rest of us worry about who's right or wrong instead of serving to irritate, World Authority.

Maaik, a agree with most of your ratings, although you might be a bit harsh on some, but the snide remarks towards Moz was a bit uncalled for. I know you have your spats with him, but there's no need to attack all the time.

The Boks might not be fielding their best possible team and we will probably still be slaughtered by the AB's, but one huge change from last year is clearly visible.  There is a lot of spirit and gees in this team. One can clearly see the comradery on the field. Beast had tears on is face for the anthem. One can see the players are playing for eachother.  This is a team building towards something greater than the sum of the parts. There's still hope for Bok Rugby.

Agreed Draad there's hope for Bok rugby...if....and that's a big IF......for starters I think the new pattern of play sweeping across all franchises is a huge plus, also think with the Boks playing a more enterprising and expansive game we can finally kiss the simplistic boring kick and chase Boere rugby farewell. But the downside to IF is when the ugly head of Transformation denies our best their rightful opportunity to stake a claim to the national jumper. Take the example of Combrink for example, twice the player that Rhule will ever be.....so yes while our best is and will never be on display I won't be hanging my all on the Bok jumper regardless of the gees that's clearly visible in the team. Race obsessed SA remains it's own biggest opponent.

Race madness isn't a South African-only ailment. It's global, hopefully we can rise above that again. Winds of change is blowing in SA. Hope we can show the world the path forward.

Unless I'm blind I don't see any other western nation selecting their finest at national level on race.....neither do I know of a race based policy dictating the percentage of POC to make up the national team. Thought that's what this debate is about...no? If that is so cut it any way you like it is racist and ethically wrong never ever to be rubber stamped by men of goodwill.

Klop ........ the Combrink example, & the inability to field our very best backrow another, dilutes the passion...... & that's not for the players only ..... I'm a bit ho-hum now when watching, hoping for the best but with my expectations lowered.

I know it's wrong and I hate it. It's a perfect example of how race based ideologies can be taken to absurdity.  I'm hoping we can move forward beyond it. The fact that the PC rest of the world is quiet about it says a lot.

Blobbie they cannot just throw out a percentage of 50% either......seriously, how the hell would anyone know if 50% is of national level? It's a political figure designed to flatter the politicians and the populist dopes who have never even seen a game of rugby.Look I know and accept that somewhere along the line their hand was forced so that there is more or better representation of POC but to hang this policy out there until Hell freezes over at the expense of denying a white player his rights is total madness or an obsession if you like.

Draad, you're a decent man but boet you are delusional if you think the politicians or ANC who implemented the policy are ever going to change.
It's a funny thing, while watching the game the camera panned to the crowd when it hit me that in 50 years time long after we're all gone, there might be one white player in the Bok squad but the crowd in the stadium would still be predominantly white.

The fact that the PC rest of the world is quiet about it says a lot.
That's a mute point for the simple reason that there isn't a blanket ban on all white players like we know from the old days so you can't expect the rest of the world to jump up an down. I'm sure they find the policy questionable but you know the ANC alongside of SARU would find justification. I think there'd be a different reaction were there a blanket ban on all white players.

We know for sure our wings and centres are going to fold against the ABs. There are players who will do better, but they aren't there....it's a form of insanity.

Den,  the ANC has no say in the make-up of the team, the sooner SARU realise it, the better.

Did Cassiem play - best of the loosies Moz - are you on the happy stuff

Kriel and Kolisi were far better

Cassiem was anonymous - apart from one half run, he was a non entity. Was crap in the line-outs

Serf and Kriel were very good in the centres, what game were you watching?

I'm not interested in the stats........Cassiem was a non entity apart from one run where he would have gained most those metres.......its called perspective. For the rest of the game he was anonymous for an 8. Cassiem also missed a simple line-out. The guy is crap always has been, not test standard by any stretch.

Kriel was far more visible with ball in hand........5 runs, 22m gained and he got 2 steals......he was our best loosie, followed by Kolisi with his try.

Kolisi was not as visible as against the French where he was simply brilliant playing openside.

Playing tigher at blindside against the Argies he was less free

It's not called perspective....it's called bias. Cassiem was better than Kolisi....Kriel got zero steal, he got a couple of penalties over the ball....in one case where Marx did the initial damage.
