So, the squad has been selected and a lot of head scratching as to how some players have made the cut. As we know, there are clear quota choices that doesn't help in creating any competition. What I would like to do is to select what I think Alistair will select vs who he should have selected.
Probably Alistair team
01 Beast - Well passed his best02 Marx 03 Malherbe 04 Etzebeth05 Mostert06 Kolisi 07 Quato Mahoje08 Du Preez09 10 Jantjies11 Skosan12 Serfontein13 Kriel14 Rhule15 Coetzee16 Bongi 17 Kittshof18 Coenie / Trevor19 PSDT20 Kriel21 Paige / Hougaard22 Leyds23 Bosh
I don't think that Beast, Mohoje, Paige, Ralapelle, Rhule, Cassiem, Ox Nche or Coenie should be in the squad. I would have gone for Dreyer, Thomas the tank, Wilco Louw, Combrink, Cronje and Schreuder. I think that we would have been stronger had we kept Schreuder and Cronje on the bench. At least if Jantjies imploded we had an astute half back pairing to the take the reigns.
I was really impress with Schreuder for the Kings and he continued with that form for the Sharks and was instrumental this weekend in helping them to over take the lions.

Probably Jean Luc as he covered during the championship.
But I also think that Cassiem might be the bolter as he has a bok cap and specialist 8, not to mention that you can see Franco Smith Influence over the team with the selections of Rhule.
But the back 3 is a major problem. I would like to see a back 3 of
6 Kolisi7 Jean Luc8 Dan
Yes, Kolisi at 6. He is in great form and deserve his shot, but I'm sure the lack of Oupa will infuriate the ANC
The other combination could be
6 Kolisi7 Jean Luc8 Kriel
But a very small back 3.
I think the twins have the size and the engine to cover a lot of ground

Ah KC, two minds with a singular purpose  ..... btw. when's the team selected ?

I feel for the coach  ...... he receives plenty of flak but  can he at the press conference say ..... 'Rhule over Combrink?'  .... ja well, I needed to fulfil my quota obligations & this is probably the least obstructive selection that I can make ........ Nah, instead we'll hear of Rhule's superb speed & try-finishing ability .

SARugby sucks .... in hindsi ght Ackerman, stay in Gloucester .

Apparently the announcement will be made on Thursday lunch time. Although, I think that the Bargies might surprise us

Ja, but the barjies as los Jaguars or Los Pumas are 2 different beast completely event though 20 of them played for los Jaguars.
They also have some quality European players still playing abroad which did not feature in the Super Rugby

There is going to be a problem with the team - basically in the backline - and I am worried about the match on Saturday.   Lets face facts - our performances against the Argentinians since 2012 varies greatly.   Under Meyer we had 7 games - 5 unconvincing (mostly narrow) wins, 1 draw and 1 bad loss.
Last year was hardly better - a win at home and a loss in Argentina.
That brings me to the team on Saturday - especially insofar as defense is concerned.   Rhule cannot make tackles to save his life and the Argentinians have a good attacking backline,
I am also worried about our half-backs and am not convinced about Jantjies in particular. I suppose that either Pollard or Brown would be on the bench - but Pollard has not had a decent match since the AB test in Johannesburg in 2014 and Brown has had a good record on Super Rugby level - while failing in the 2017 Under 20 WC.
As to the loosie combination - I seriously doubt whether the loosie selection would be anything bar poor.   I do not think they would measure up to the Argentinian combination.
However, lets wait and see the team announcements on Thursday.

It's very hard to predict what this clown might do and who he will select.

I just expect the worst, that way I won't be disappointed.

Thomas can't scrum, Wilco for Malherbe is obvious and not a quota problem.

Thomas is only 21, lots to learn, but the guy is a machine and would be worth keeping in the mix of Ox Nce or Trevor Nkyane

It's a mess ... but then again, what's new?

There are so many things wrong with this squad .... where to begin?

From second rate starting loosehead props to a laughable back row in Mohoje and Kolisi ... and onto a jittery Jantjies with "two bounce pass" HouGat feeding him ... the defensively deficient Kriel at 13 ... and one of Quota Coetzee's biggest brain farts out wide ... Raymond Rhule.

Meanwhile we have Vorster, Janse van Rensburg and Comvbrinck sitting at home picking their noses.

It's hilarious to think that we even have the useless Stormers slotted in as captain and vice captain.

I wonder if he'll make room for Fleck someday soon ?

Go Argentina

What ur telling m Ruan Combrinick and J Van Rensberg. Who the former was outstanding in super rugby thus season. Are not in the squad? Damn quota huh. I'm picking Argentina tbh. At home. Janties is useless. And irratic. Beudan Barrett outclassed him in last years super final. And this year Richie Mounga did. Who else is their? Hell I would start Pollard over Janties. Leyds is good. Houggard? Gah damn it's that bad lol.

Update is that Malherbe is crocked so Dreyer is back in at tight head. I wonder why they didn't recall Vincent Koch. He is our only tight head that is good around the park and a solid scrummager.
It has also been noted that 8 will be between Cassiem and Jean Du Preez.
I would be pissed of if they chose Cassiem, the guy has no pace for a number 8.
Kolisi is still injured.
So the back three might be
6 Kriel7 Mahoje 8 Cassiem
Other than Kriel, the rest is waste
I would have gone with
6 Kriel7 Jean Luc Du Preez8 Dan Du Preez
