Bok side is unchanged for second test
Given Ireland's ranking the importance of these tests probably make them a less than ideal opportunity to fiddle with new blood.
Rassie hoping the errors level will drop. Not a surprise.
I think thatplaqyers like Pollard, De Klerk and Mostert would be replaced earlier and am indeed unhappy about the retention of Kwagga as a starter.
In any event there are plenty of opportuinities to bring in new players into the starting line-ups in the upcoming tests against the teams from Portugal, Argentina and even Australia. I think that even exisiting squad members like Esterhuizen and Mostert will be replaced once De Jager and Willemse are fit and ready to play test rugby again.
The fact thast Feinberg Ngomezulu remains on the benbch indicates that he is going to enter the starting team soon and Erasmus and Brown think he is a certainty for future selection.
Even other flawed plyers are going to be replqced by better younger players as early as this year,
. . .
Ireland is crocked and missing some key players, however, they still put up a decent fight. I see Kohane is concerned with this new way of playing. Shuffling the ball side to side and leaving gaps out wide.
This style of play could lead to a lot of turn over and counter attack opportunities. Our rucks look extremely week and often Faf was either too late to get to the ruck or the ball wasn't secured enough.
Our players turned over the ball a lot in this match.
I hope they pace themselves a bit more and vary their game. I did like the sucker punch at the beginning of the game, but we gave away territory with Kwagga knocking the ball on.
Kwagga is really frustrating me at the moment and is over rated. He had a poor game against Wales and another poor game against the Irish. Knocking balls on, conceding penalties and not being able to hold onto the ball. He is a 20 min impact player. That is his role.
Roos should be starting or even Elrich Louw, we need the meat hammers to tenderise our opposition before we bring him on.
Mostert should just be picked for the whole season…..why screw around. So the Fassi, Am, Libbok, Williams, Wilco, Marx, Snyman, Roos imperatives go away in a puff of….I need to win this series and keep the politicians happy ….smoke.
Still playing with Coetzee’s team.
Not in the view of Eluckmiss who is playing his very best team Dave….he wants to win this one as much as the WC and he’s taking no chances. You just don’t get it.
So why is he playing Mostert then? The only reason can be he is more confident with Mostert starting. Why? Certainly RG is the bigger, more physically talented unit….but far more likely to make a big mistake.
He also doesn’t have Mostert’s vision….tackle, jump back up, view the field, rush to the blindside….take down the Irish fullback so effectively he can’t pass, saving a likely try. Brilliant read and execution. Mostert thinks faster than any Bok forward. He does exactly what is needed.
Have to agree Moz
Rassie has just chosen the most experienced Springbok side to ever represent South Africa on the playing field, and he also seriously wants to prove a significant point to the Irish and the rest of world rugby by beating the Irish 2 - 0.... so it makes more sense that he has chosen Mostert over RG purely from his confidence on how Mostert is currently performing or how he fits in what their plans are for that game.
First player Rassie will select is MOSTERT.
World champions South Africa will field an unchanged team for the second Test against Ireland in Durban on Saturday.
The starting XV named by Rassie Erasmus is the most experienced in the history of South African rugby, with 990 caps across the 15 players - 12 of whom started in the Rugby World Cup final win over New Zealand in October.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rassie has certainly gone with experience. Ireland rank 2nd in the world, so after this series the Boks will get a chance to experiment with younger players and new combinations
BS - HOORAY for record rugby ignorance of Manower and the King of Fools.
