None of the fullbacks impressed and Willie le Roux's best position is 15, so he gets my call.

15. W. le Roux

14. v/d Heever  (Mapoe had a good game for the Bulls)

13. JJ.Engelbrecht (Sadie was far better this week, he seems to lack real pace though)

12. Ebersohn (Jean and Serfontein were good and up against far better opposition)

11. Rhule (Visser had a good game, scoring a good try)

10. Catrakillis

9. Pretorious (Groom looked good when he came on)

1. Nkanyane

2. Strauss

3. Malherbe

4. de Jager (Willemse had a good game for the Bulls)

5. Bekker (Kruger was good for the Bulls)

6. Kolisi (Brussouw was good for the Cheetahs)

7. Elstadt (Labascagne was good)

8. Vermeulen (Spies and v/d Walt had solid games)

You always did the funnies when it comes to items like this one.  Vermeulen get yellow-carded and  he should be cut out completely because of that.

Elstadt had his best game thus far this year and battled ahead valiently.   However, on the day in question Labuschagne had a better all-round game than him - but I agree that those were the best two on display.

I think that Ebersohn played against much weaker opposition - than Serfontein   I would rate Serfontein as better because the opposition was stronger than the pathetic Rebels.

Mike given your rugby ignorance, you are hardly in a position to comment. Labascagne at best had a solid game. Elstadt was far better. A yellow card does not eliminate a player from a team selection you stupid idiot.

I'd be more than happy with Serfontein at 12, but Ebersohn had his best game of the season and yes it was against weaker opposition, but he took his opportunities

Crap.  Allow e to quot for you the Super 15 team of the week for you hereunder:-

1 tom mcartney (blues)

2 hika elliot (cheifs)

3 james slipper (reds)

4 hugh pyle (rebels)

5 sam whitelock (crusaders)

6 pieter labuschange (cheetahs)

7 matt todd (crusaders)

8 fritz lee (cheifs)

9 will genia (reds)

10 tyler blyendaal (crusaders)

11 hosea gear (highlanders)

12 robert ebherson (cheetahs)

13 richard kahui (chiefs)

14 alapati leiua (hurricanes)

15 james oconner (rebels)

Theonly SA player listed is Labuschagne

He is clearly much higher rated by the New Zealanders than you think.   So you are the lone voice in the desert ahgain.

As to Ebersohn - his best game was by far away against the Highlanders - which I rate as a stronger team than the Rebels.

Of the seletion is 50:50 a yellow card is in fact a disqualifier.  I would rather go with Engelbrecht from the Kings at 8.

Um Mike, that is Sas's side of the week. Its bullshit, especially Elliot ahead of Strauss at 2. Pyle at 4 for the Rebels is a joke selection, as is Blyendaal at 10 and O'Conner at 15.

Saffex

I think Blyendaal was the man of the match on Saturday and did have a massive role - especially his strategic kicking was exceptional and helped on by the poor line-out performance of the Stormers.   Have no problem with him in that side.   Pyle is a joke and so is Ellito and O'Connor.  One-eyed selections I believe.

Vermeulen was hard done by. He was in a maul and I'm sure he thought he was dealing with a forward, not some flimsy wing who did a dive. But regardless that was never a yellow....you can't lift a man past horizontal while holding only one leg....not unless he is jumping himself.

Dirty bloody ABs....they decapitate Jantjies and then pile drive our cappie. Poi-e I think given how high poor old John soared, Thorne must have worked a little nut squeeze into the mix. Is nothing sacred?

@mozter, saffex & poie,

rubbish vermeulen deserved his yellow big time, to suggest that zac jumped has me going WTF??? o_O

here is out the whole incident wnet dowm & i feel free to find something worng with its detailed description,,,

vermeulen makes the taackle on george whitelock.

zac guilford gets to the breakdown as vermeulen gets on his feet.

in the act of verneulen getting to his feet he grabs zacs right leg who hops backwards a few steps unbalanced.

vermeulen continues to hold zacs leg while lifiting him up and lets go when zacs body and legs are exatly horizontal.

53:24 vermeulen has pulled out, but his actions have already set in motion the illegal lifiting. good call from joubert, but i hope thats the end of it, cos IMO it was reckless not intentional, but it did happen.

to suggest that zac guilford jumped, holy crap thats a tuis ad if ever i heard one, :oD

i remember that hit on smit too, i thought thorn was lucky to stay on, he should have at least been cited and was very shocked nothing amounted from that.

Have to disagree.....that was about as dangerous as a kid falling in a Potato sack race. This law was designed to prevent deliberate, dangerous play. ...it's become a holier than thou ref thing. Joubert was looking for an opportunity to showcase his vigilance.

@mikey and saffex,

elliot ahead of strauss was a genuine error, im not sure what i was thinking there TBH, i think i was lost in my train of thought, cos i was thinking about some closely contested positions, mainly the ebherson/crotty, kahui/c smith,b potualii/a leiua.
by the time u check my team it should have alread been edited.

im convinced though that pyle was a real behemoth defensive wise, his workrate in this regard plus those of james oconner was the main thing to stop the cheetahs from ripping apart the rebles the way sharks did a week earlier.

Pos   T/A Pts K/P/R MR CB DB OL TO Tack LO Pen Y/R FB O'Connor 0/0 11 11/5/12 112 1 5 2 0 3/1 0/0 0 0/0 L Pyle 0/0 0 0/1/4 3 0 0 0 0 17/2 1/0 0 0/0

i dont think u will find another lock who made more then 17 tackles, what is odd is that sports data has him recording 22 as did sky.
and oconner, 12 runs avg 10 meters per run, 1 line break, 5 tackle breaks and 2 offloads, no one comes close to his workrate.
im not really one eyed towards these players, i just think they were the better players in their positions on the day, something the numbers back me up on. i actually tnhink that pyle is useless, but like morne hes capable of having one good game at some stage, lolz, :o)

Sasue

OK - I was wrong about O'Connor.   None of the playing full backs covered themselves in glory - matter of fact mot was atrocious.  So O'Connor was best of a bad lot.   LOL

In fact I am glad I got rid of him from my fantasy squads.   If he was playing for a stroner franchise I might have kept him - but the Rebels are really not up to standard.

Talking of that - I hope Ben Robinson is in the starting line-up of the Warata=hsthis coming weekend - otherwise two of my changes would have to be props - with both Afeaki and Slipper having byes.   If Robinson play I will only need to make one change in that position and put Afeaki on the bench.  That would leave me with three other changes and I really can use them to best advantage.   I am planning about two weeeks ahead of schedule and my team is at last taking shape..

o_O

Law 10: Foul Play
10.4 Dangerous play and misconduct
Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player's feet are still off the ground such that the player's head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

u cant argue with my play by play descripiton of the inciednet, especially the 53:24 mark which in accordance to the law 10.4 of the official IRB rules and laws i have pasted, there really was no other course of action for joubert except a yellow, :o)

Just looked at it again.....it's a storm in a tea cup. Guilders is grabbing vdH  around the neck. VdH lifts one leg to chest height....the only reason the other leg comes off the deck is because Guildford is supporting his weight on vdH's neck. VdH doesn't make any motion towards the ground he simply let's go at chest height.....but Guilfords arm slips off his neck and falls on his back. It's a nothing.

I don't believe its physically possible to lift a player off the ground by one leg......unless the other leg is unweighted already. I don't think it's lifting, if I had to give it a name, I'd call it tilting.

These things used to be at the refs discretion....and any sensible ref wouldnt even have awarded a penalty.

By the letter of the law, I say that the referee was correct.

Vermulen picked the player of the ground and dropped him which is a yellow card.

It is considered a tackle in this instance, even though Guilford never had the ball.

Guildford should not have been holding onto him when he tries to get up -which was a penalty offence for tackling the player without the ball in favour of the Stormers

Vermuelen proceeded to get angry and was overrobust in breaking free of Guilford, and proceeded to pick him up by one leg from the floor and dropped him.

The one area I was not sure of when I watched it- was that the player head was not facing the ground when dropped, but his upper body was partially facing the ground. So it may not have been dangerous because he was never going to land on his neck or shoulder. So it borders on a penalty and yellow card but it was so close that the Referee was probably correct.

It was nothing compared to the tackle by Brad Thorn on John Smit.

-

It was stupidity on the part of Vermuelen who should have instead of called the referee when Guildford was preventing him from standing up to try get a penalty instead of give  it away
