Clarkson dominated Wessels in the URC final. He was the reason the Bulls couldn’t benefit from Wilco’s dominance.

1 Jan-Hendrik Wessels

It was a tough outing in the scrums for the Bok. He was under pressure in the first scrum, which gave Leinster a penalty and it set the tone for the rest of the first half.

4/10

Wessels should be playing hooker, he is a terrific player in the loose….just not a dominating scrummager.

………

As for Kolisi, he can’t fetch, that pretty much says he can’t be an effective 6. At 6 he is pretty much a passenger subbed after 50 minutes.

……

Willemse vs Fassi is a coin toss.

I don’t get it, our biggest test is in 4 weeks time when we face the kiwis at home. I thought Rassie would put his best team out and use these two games to dial them in and get them settled.

Is Libbok going to play in New Zealand? Definitely not, he won’t handle the pressure or the wet. He can’t go to the old guard as the World Cup is too far away. This is his opportunity to break in new blood.

I think the Aussies have been getting better which is great news. But for the boks I expect another disjointed performance and Libbok to miss his kicks. Like he did last year that cost us a sure win.

we need to go to New Zealand with our tails up.

but who knows, maybe this game will get rid of the deadwood. If Eben, bongi, kolisi or any other of the old guard bomb I would say that it is time to cut them loose

Bullshit has Wessels been dominated he has just finished a season playing loosehead and dominating for the Bulls

Only an idiot would pick a player on the strength of him effecting 2 turnovers a game

0 0 Likes

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Fat Dave has no understanding. He thinks the measure of ruck play is turnovers alone...

If the Deysel Creatine twins were triplets, he would pick all 3 in the back row. It would be the most unbalanced back row in history.

In each game, there are over 200 rucks.

When the Boks have their worst games, it is because of slow ball at the ruck- not because of not winning turnovers, or even just conceding turnovers. This is particularly true in wet conditions.

To be successful at phase play, the ball has to be cleared from the ruck as quickly as possible. When the Boks get clean ball at the ruck, they usually beat any team.

Much of the work of a classic 6 goes unnoticed - like how many times they were the 2nd or 3rd person to a ruck. What is noticeable is that when the Boks replace Kolisi, the rucks often improve. Or when the Boks select a back row without anyone good at the ruck, it is clear that their is clumsy slow play at the ruck.

Rassie is not stupid enough to choose a loosehead who can’t scrum….but he is stupid enough to pick Reinach over Faf? This is a Simpleton like argument..,,,we see a crucial match, the URC final…..the Bools loosehead struggles in every scrum. So the scrum dominance goes Leinster’s way. Everybody sees it, every player review confirms it….but it didn’t happen

No Moz huge difference between a prop not being able to scrum and a call between two scrumhalves. - wake up man

You are lying about him being dominated in every scrum - complete lie

First scrum thanks to an early engage by the tighthead - and that’s it - FACT

Moz i think Willemse is our best 15, he is really good operating from the back. Fassi is not bad either and a good runner with ball in hand.

Willemse always makes a impact even of the bench. A versatile player that can cover quite a few positions. Will he be tried out at 12, remains to be seen.

I’m still not convinced Willemse’s best position isn’t center M. Right now he is ahead of Fassi at 15, partly because Fassi hasn’t been the same player since his injury.

The real question is, who is our best team or 23 / 30? Do we need 50 players to play 10 games a season?

For me the biggest build up is travelling to NZ and beating the All Blacks at Eden park. We beat them 4 games in a row, but we need to at least one game in NZ, it would be brilliant if we could win 2 games against them at home which will put that we are not good enough to bed.

I would love to actually have another season of dominating them, but who is our best team?

Then, we know the games will be at night, it is in the middle of their winter which is wet and slippery. It is not a comfortable place to go to and our fair weather boks will struggle. We need players that can play in the wet. Starting Libbok and Williams on the high veld is great but can they crack it at Eden Park.

Neither do I think Kolisi or Bongi is up to standard. Why pick him at 8?

My question is should we have Sasha on the bench? I don't think Willemse is a wet weather player or any of the stormers players. If you look at their record up north, it is awful.

Moz what the fuck you talking about - for a start Fassi was great last season your take on him not being the same since his injury is utter rubbish - he has in fact been better since his layoff

What the fuck has Dec 24 got to do with anything - pre that was last season

Pakie

Andre was also calling players telling them to come that side to negate the Welsh overlap, while covering his man and making the tackle.

First of all which tackle did Esterhuizen make? I was watching specfically where he was when he ball was recovered before the Welsh scored.. He was standiong virtually next to the scriumme and not in any defending line.

By the way dimness in 2015 Nonu went off injured after a tackle by De Allende and was NOT a routine replacement. Andre had since 2018 had a really questionable defense record anyway. , .

Minute 4:48. Esterhuizen is right where he is supposed to be, marking #21 while also in attention if Wales made a push to the line with the forwards. His #13 is literally right next to him as he makes the tackle, so I'm not sure where else Mike wants him. Outside the 13? On the touchline?

No that was no the ry referred to - it was the one scored bya hooker where St Esterhuizen was standing next to the scrummie doing bugger all at all. Despite the so-called tackle amde by Esterhuizen the bal went wder and that was here an overlap came about,

From 2018 Esterhuizen defensive record was always an issue, That was the main reason why he was not in the RWC squad in 2019 - he brought near to zero in attack in matches he played n and defense was not his strong point, He has near to zeo ball sense and that affects his defense and attacking play negatively. Those were the real reasons that when Kriel was injured in 2019 Erasmus called up Wilemse to replace Kriel and not St Esterhuien.

Willemse was always a better player than Esterhuizen was whether on franchise level or on test level. Esterhuizen was never a potent attacke and despite all your hee-haw he is not a proven strong and top defender and his contribution in attack was always questionable as well. 20 tests at center and zero tries scored makes him unique Springbok center history in SA. . .

.

Your video request is simple - looked at te same amtch where the overlap occurred and see te other try scored by the Welsh hooker. .

Given that Wales only scored one try in that game, I am finding it quite difficult to locate "te other try scored by the Welsh hooker". I expect it exists only in your head.
