Player Ratings

NameSurnameFranchise/ClubRatingLourensAdriaanseCell C SharksUnlikely a test standard player. RuanCombrinckEmirates LionsSolid- he is fast- but not super fast. Perhaps should be tested at 15 where he can use his boot and counter attack. Goosen is looking less frail- but still not exactly reassuring at the back. Damiande AllendeDHL StormersDe Allende is in decent form- but not as good as last year. Rohan should be on the bench pushing for his position- and also providing centre cover instead of De jong- who is not test standardLoodde JagerToyota CheetahsDu Toit is a smarter player - and Lood should be on the benchJuande JonghDHL Stormersaverage- not test standard. It would be better to have Rohan covering outside centreFafde KlerkEmirates LionsThe only good nine we have, other than Hougaard who is a fast pitch scrumhalf onlyPieter-Stephdu ToitDHL StormersShould be starting as he brings more brain to the pack than lead head.EbenEtzebethDHL StormersPlaying well- but like many other players do not seem to understand if there is a game plan- and gets isolated due to no supportJohanGoosenRacing (France)Needs to get a run at flyhalf, or even at outside centre. He has the playing making game for an outside centre- albeit he will be tested on defence. I am not sure if he is a fullback of test standard yet.BryanHabanaToulon (France)Past itEltonJantjiesEmirates LionsStruggles with the rush defence. He needs a coach with a plan b to deal with the rush defence, like standing deeper.StevenKitshoffBordeaux (France)Underplayed. He needs more game time.VincentKochDHL Stormers/Steval Pumasaverage- more likely a place holder until someone better is around or over injuriesJacoKrielEmirates LionsUnderplayedJesseKrielVodacom BullsaverageFrancoisLouwBath (England)average- playing like a 6.5 at the moment, not a six or a sevenLionelMapoeEmirates Lionsstruggling to find international form, with a blundering of a certain try adding fuel to the flamesMalcolmMarxEmirates LionsUnder played. Has become the successor to Bismaark. We could have another John Smit scenario here.BongiMbonambiDHL StormersAverage- unlikely test standardOupaMohojeToyota CheetahsBelow Average- not a test standard playerFrancoMostertEmirates LionsWee Mostert could be an impact player to cover loosely forward and lockTendaiMtawariraCell C SharksSolid player- even if just for the first half.TrevorNyakaneVodacom BullsA good player when in not eating too much. He carries so much baby fat he should be playing in a diaper. RudyPaigeVodacom BullsAverage- unlikely test standardMorneSteynStade Francais (France)A one trick pony. Will kick for poles at any opportunity. He stands so deep- so at least the rush defence will not trouble him. AdriaanStraussVodacom BullsPast it- time to move on from this plodder. He is looking more and more like a fat guy running around in a game for athletes. Marx should be starting.WarrenWhiteleyEmirates LionsWee Whitey needs to get a chance to play a high-tempo game where the forwards recycle the ball quickly. Having Jaco Kriel on the pitch should help.

Overall not a very good squad by Springbok standards. The loose forwards are the weakest area- and the wings lack serious pace.
We lack a strong ball carrier to get over the advantage line without Vermeulen- or the old version of Vermeulen. Jaco Kriel has to start as we are not competitive at the breakdown. He is also a good ball carrier- and will get over the advantage line than flow.
With the ANC having to report to the United Nations, maybe that will give SARU the opportunity to ditch the quota target. Mohoe is not test standard.
My United Nations back row would override the transformation goals.
6. Kriel7. Louw8. Whitely.
