This squad is definitely going to ruffle a few feathers.
Mike, we already know your thoughts on F Steyn, so try and relax, have a beer, and hope he doesn't get a start.
For me the questionable choices are; De Jager, Malherbe, Chiliboy, de Allende, Serfontein and Frans Steyn. With the last three names I have listed I expect some serious crash balling to come!!
I am happy for Whitely. A deserved captain!
23 May 2017, 13:47#5
What is chilli steroid donkey rallepelle doing in the Squad. A lot of dead wood in this team. How would you create a starting 15 out of this lot?
Mine would be
1. Kitshoff
2. Bongi
3. Malherbe
4. Estebeth
5. ptsd
6. Kriel
7. Vermeulen
8. Whiteley
9. Hougaard
10 Jantjies
11 Skosana
12 De Allende
13 Serfontein
14 Rule
15 Andries Coetzee
Gone for a stormers tight five as well as Bongi to find his jumpers. I wasn't too sure about the back line, but went for a mix of experience and form. Rule started the season well but will need to lift his game.

Here's a decent starting XV using the SA A squad:
Gelant, Combrinck, Mapoe, Vorster, Mapimpi, Cronje, Vermaak, Notshe, du Preez, Cloete, Ferreira, Botha, Nyakane, Marais, du Toit.
Not a great tight five admittedly but a much better backline than anything you can pick from that joke of a Bok squad.

Looks like the same lucky packet as last year. One good thing is making Whiteley captain, but this squad may be his undoing. The A team is a joke.....not worth even commenting on. The Bok squad is sad....proven test failures Paige, Stepfontein, Malherbe and Mahoje are likely to be in the starting team.
All coached by the loser trio.
23 May 2017, 14:27#8
Wow!!!
And so it continues.
This side is even worse than the last one Coetzee selected.
Totally gobsmacked.
23 May 2017, 15:36#9
The one and only plus I suppose is that there's no elderly heroes of a decade ago ... apart from Fats Fransie who wasn't really much of a hero any way.
I thought I'd see Bismarcks name there. I'm a little surprised that Louw isn't in the mix.

The squad selection is a joke. The fact is what the hell are the following doing in the squad since some of them cannot even make the regular starting line-up of their Super Rugby teams - eg Ralepelle and Paige.
Then they found somehow the worst defenders at wing imaginable - namely Leyds and Rhule - with Skosan only slightly better,
The fact that Fat Fransie is an insult to the Springbok jersey and the worst imaginable selection of his record is borne in mind. He cannot attack and cannot defend and his kicking game is wildly erratic. The man is just plain useless and it is clear that he came in on the back of the advice provided by Coetzee's previous boss White.
How do you get a team out of that lot:-
15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Courtnall Skosan, 13 Jan Serfontein, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Warren Whiteley (c), 7 Duane Vermeulen, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Malcom Marx, 1 Tendai Mtawari
16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Lizo Gqoboza, 18 Frans Malherbe, 19 Franco Mostert, 20 Jaco Kriel, 21 Rudy Paige, 22 Fat Fransie Steyn, 23 Dillyn Leyds.
That lot have about 8 decent players and the rest are definitely not the top performers in SA. Some are in fact ridiculously poor.
The particular weakness is the loosies - none of them are known for their capacity in ball protection and recovery. Fact is Louis Picamoles must be licking his lips in advance when seeing that squad.
By the way the omission of Combrinck can only be regarded as a crime against rugby.
One has to wonder about the sanity of Coetzee or about his total lack of intelligence in this case. I am also totally gobsmacked in this case.
23 May 2017, 15:42#11
I don't know how Kitshoff is in the mix considering that he only has 3 caps and plays in France. Will he qualify later or is he planning to come back?
What about Vincent Koch, he has been playing out his skin for Sarries
23 May 2017, 16:01#12
There is no way I'd play Kolisi ahead of Kriel ... nor Beast ahead of Kitshoff.
I'd also rather have Serfontein in at 12 with Am on his outside. De Allende doesn't know how to get his outside man into a gap.
Don't be surprised if you see Fats Fransie coming in at 10 with Franscois "two bounce" HouGat in at 9.
1. Beast, 2. Bongi, 3. Malherbe, 4. Eben, 5. Du Toit, 6. Kolisi, 7. Oupa, 8. Whiteley, 9. HouGat, 10. Frans Steyn, 11. Leyds, 12. De Allende, 13. Kriel, 14 Rhule, 15 Coetzee.

The so-called "A" team would beat the Springboks if the two teams play each other, There are also some BS in the "A" team - but there are some good players in that squad:-
15 Warrick Gelant, 14 Ruan Combrinck, 13 Francois Venter, 12 Harold Vorster, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Lionel Cronje, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 7 Jan-Luc du Preez, 6 Chris Cloete, 5 Ruan Botha, 4 Andries Ferreira, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Franco Marais, 1 Ox Nche
16 Ramone Samuels, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Thomas du Toit, 19 Jason Jenkins, 20 Jason Jenkins, 20 Andisa Ntsili, 21 Dewaldt Duvenage, 22 Fred Zeiling, 23 Lionel Mapoe
Why I say the "A" team will beat the Springbok selected team is the amount of BS selections included in the two team. For that reason I am highlighting the names in the two teams:-
.15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Courtnall Skosan, 13 Jan Serfontein, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Warren Whiteley (c), 7 Duane Vermeulen, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Malcom Marx, 1 Tendai Mtawari
16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Lizo Gqoboza, 18 Frans Malherbe, 19 Franco Mostert, 20 Jaco Kriel, 21 Rudy Paige, 22 Fat Fransie Steyn, 23 Dillyn Leyds.
So the "A" team has 4 real BS selections against the 6 of the Springbok team. It is also clear that I have no trust in some players like Jantjies and Fat Fransie, while in the case of the rest there are serious question marks about defense and loosie play competitiveness. In all cases I think the "A" team has better quality players in the squad than the Springbok team has.

So many players in the squad who did nothing last year and have done even less this year.
So they'll find form during the tests. Great plan.
Please tell me how Jessie Kriel deserves a call up? He looks the part, but what had he done?
No Lions centres. So Jantjies will have a brand new man outside him again...with Hougaard probably starting. Fking awesome Toetie.
Rudy Paige made it though. Obviously because we need to make up the black numbers in this piece of shyte racist fking country of ours.
This squad is upsetting on so many levels. I need to calm down.

Oh right . . . so it was just the Stompies quota players who went missing against the Kiwis . . . the whiteys all fronted up!
Waaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha!
Nick Mallett made the point that we can't pick players who've just been pounded by the Kiwis and expect these losers to suddenly become winners because they've pulled a different coloured jersey on. There should be zero Stompies (or Bulls) in this squad but here we have Bozo the Clown selecting every Hapless Stompie whose name he remembers.
But ja . . . blame the black okes. The whities were all pure class when they toured New Zealand!

All three are loosies - they would not overcome the bad name iro loosies the Springboks had for years now. It is glaringly obvious that all three do not know the real meaning of ball protection and recovery.
So what is going to happen in the tests? I think the Springboks will lose in all three tests because there will no game plan and no reasonableness in team selection. The squad is a witches brew and the result will surely be disaster. The argument will be by how much the concoction would lose and the answer is likely by 20 plus points per test.

Apart from Lambie, the following players were not considered for Springbok and SA ‘A’ selection because of injury, or as stated otherwise: JC van Rensburg (prop, DHL Stormers), Julian Redelinghuys (prop, Emirates Lions), Francois Louw (flank, Bath, UK), Roelof Smit (flank Vodacom Bulls), Marcell Coetzee (flank, Ulster, Ireland), Handré Pollard (flyhalf, Vodacom Bulls), Jean-Luc du Plessis (flyhalf, DHL Stormers), Kurt Coleman (flyhalf, DHL Stormers), Robert du Preez (flyhalf, DHL Stormers), Howard Mnisi (centre, Emirates Lions), Rohan Janse van Rensburg (centre, Emirates Lions), Nico Lee (centre, Toyota Cheetahs), Leolin Zas (wing, DHL Stormers), Curwin Bosch (flyhalf, Cell C Sharks, Junior Springboks), André Esterhuizen (centre, Cell C Sharks, suspended) and RG Snyman (lock, Vodacom Bulls, suspend ed).

Good question mate
Vermeulen and Whitely are both natural 8's but play totally different games.
I'd be happy to see Vermeulen at with Whiteley and Kriel on the sides of the scrum.
Either way, i think it would work.
Whitely is a great feeder. Vermeulen is a great carrier.

Political mechanics will guarantee Kolisi a place in the xv & probably Beast, Jantjies, Skosan & Rhule ..... a third of the team black, a far cry from the 50% required at RWC19 .
24 May 2017, 09:42#31
We will soon see where Vermeulen is regarding his form, his attitude and where he'll play.
I can almost guarantee you it won't be as the starting 8 ... but with Toetie one never knows.
Our back row against France could easily be 6. Kolisi, 7. Mohoje, 8. Whiteley.
Coetzee isn't a fan of Kriel. I don't think we'll see much of him this tour. Perhaps a slot on the bench from time to time.
Vermeulen is a puzzle.

Coetzee is a fool that make that kind of selections.
However, if that lot he selected are beaten he may be shown the door and that would be a great blessing for the future of Springbok rugby.
If the team loses big in the first test they would struggle to get 10 000 spectators at the other two tests.
So I actually hope that the June tests would be another disaster for the Springbok team and we could get the beating Coetzee deserves.

You've got to love this bit from Brendon Nell at SS...
In the end the proof will be in the pudding, as they say, but last season Coetzee preached more expansive rugby and then played a different game plan to the Lions, which negated some of the strengths of players like Whiteley, and in particular Elton Jantjies.
It's what we've come to expect from the master of confusion.

Fat Fransie is the only center ever whose coach said he is no center. His selection at 12 will be a disaster,
He is a famous ball hogger and is the player on Super Rugby level with the biggest number of possession losses in any season. He is a BS defender and useless on attack and will neutralize any potential backline play. So lets have him at inside center - it will not last since Fat Fransie is too poor a player to l ast.
24 May 2017, 14:28#40
Yes, I agree, KingCorn. All three are definite quotas. Merit is not a priority with Coetzee.
Don't worry about Redneck's tantrum. He tends to lose it a bit when you speak negatively about the black man.
Probably wouldn't mind his daughter marrying one.
