The players that should not have made the squad as there are far better options sitting at home:

Fullbacks: Willie le Roux, Zane Kirchner  (no need for him at all, Lambie and Kriel to cover 15)

Wings: Bryan Habana, JP Pietersen, Lwazi Mvovo  (Senatla, v/Wyk, Sithole, Combrink, Ulengo and Kolbe are all better)

Centres: Jean de Villiers (capt)  (Serfontein, Vorster, Odendaal, Mnisi, Frans Venter, Dries Swanepoel, Stokkies, JJ and Frans Steyn are all better), Damian de Allende, Jesse Kriel.

Flyhalves: Pat Lambie, Handre Pollard, Morne Steyn  (Jantjies and Goosen are far better)

Scrumhalves: Fourie du Preez, Ruan Pienaar, Rudy Paige  (Hougaard, Faf and Reinach are all better)

Loose forwards: Duane Vermeulen, Francois Louw, Willem Alberts, Schalk Burger  (Coetzee, Jaco Kriel, Brussouw, Carr, Arno Botha, CJ Stander, Labs, Elstadt, v/d Walt and Jacques du Plessis are all better), Siya Kolisi

Locks: Victor Matfield  (Willemse, Jacques du Plessis, Lewies and Ruan Botha are all better), Eben Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Lood de Jager

Hookers: Bismarck du Plessis, Adriaan Strauss, Schalk Brits  (Scara, Ackers and Marx are all better)

Props: Tendai Mtawarira,  (Kitshoff is better, but Beast to stay as we dont need Kirchner) Trevor Nyakane, Jannie du Plessis  (Marcel v/d Merwe and Koch are better), Frans Malherbe, Coenie Oosthuizen.

I'd retain Habana for experience sake as I would not have taken a 3rd hooker

You missed out on a string by me about the fact that Meyer clearly decided in 2012 whom he wants in his ideal team and that shows in his subsequent team selections in tests.   he clearly was not interested in -
*   performance by the players he decided on in 2012 - if their performances were sub-par he would just ignore it, and
*   building up a squad of performing players leading to the world cup.
Meyer's house of cards nearly collapsed this year because of multiple injuries to his favoured players and decisions of Bakkies Botha, Gurthro Steenkamp and Jacque Fourie to retire.  So what did Meyer do - he decided that match-fitness is not a requirement for selection and ended up with a list of players that played  virtually no matches this year and when they did put in disastrously poor performances.
It is no use to argue about it - Meyer was a fool in what he did.  His supporters on this site are even bigger fools - because they are his puppets on this site.

Yep had Bakkies and Jaque Fourie been available they would have made the squad - thats how utterly out of touch useless Meyer is.
The guy is stuck in a time warp
