I thought you said last week that Sithole was useless. And what did Serfontein do to help his team....six straight forward crashes for 14 metres and six straight dead balls. He was poor, damn poor. But better than the invisisble man who plays outside him.

And no Matfield, when he basically dominated the game in Pretoria. And Kankan selected when actually Daniel did more in his brief cameo.

I will give you Hougaard who actually is beginning to look a little more comfortable at 9.....which if maintained, could be very useful for the Boks. He did of course miss the tackle that set up the second last Chiefs try...but other than that he had a decent, if not spectacular game.

In fairness to Hougaard, he was shifted to the wing

I have never said Sithole is useless......never ever. He did nothing special at all, it was a close call with all three 13's on the day. de Jongh was a liability in contact, JJ got little ball, so I gave it to Sithole

Kankan had a good game, close call between him and Potgieter.......could have gone to Potgieter, I'd be happy with that.

Matfield did nothing of note.......dominated the game in what way exactly.......what utter rubbish.

Lewies was better

De Jongh missed one tackle and made 10, made a brilliant try saving tackle .....and was a liability in contact? Dave as the Bokbarometer guru you should revert to the honesty you showed in the first few weeks. This team is just editorial opinion.

You did not quote the stats 0 but used them in the case of Serfontein.  So lets be fair and  quote them in full:-
Serfontein0/001/3/61401019/00/000/0
You criticized Serfontein severely and I quote :-
 "He was poor, damn poor."
Now since you were in euphora about Francois Steyn and you used Serfontein stats to justify your assertions - lets be fair and look at the stats of Francopis Steyn as well:-
Steyn0/031/4/71400109/40/030/0
I will use you own words here again to illustrate Steyn' s efforts - "seven straight forward crashes for 14 metres and six straight dead balls".    Add to that all the missed tackles and penalties given away and Steyn " was poor, damn poor".
Kindly tell me why you use stats to describe one player as damn poor - and praise to high heaven another player with much worse stats?  I am waiting in earnest to hear the joke to follow in this case.

Oom  what are you doing? You are trying once again to rate the players only on the basis of raw data. What have I told you? You can only do that by equilibrating the data points. Steyn made some huge tackles eg of Potgieter on the charge....Serfontein made a bunch of process tackles...not the same thing. If you want a model to rate players it's going to have to be a lot more sophisticated than raw data. Fransie took the ball up in heavy traffic, Serfontein was playing in a looser game.....and killed the ball by stepping inside into traffic, not the same thing.  The Bools gained a total  of 135 metres! The Chiefs gained over 600 metres.  How effective did you think  Serfontein and JJ were?

What  is different between what I did and what you did in the case of Serfontein?  What the hell - and I asked you before - is "process tackles"?  What is clear is that it is a term you developed to discredit players who defend better than your favourites.   But lets use that term and come up with the fact that Steyn missed "process tackles"
Serfontein has an inside step - Steyn has no step at all - he runs straight at the first defender - thus taking the ball into traffic.   He does not even try to aim at the gap between the two centers - just straight into the first defender and then get tackled and penalized.   All that is forgiven - because Serfontein has an inside step.
I do not think that Serfontein was effective at all - but I think Steyn was even less effective and despite all the rubbish explanations offered by you - since he also gave away 3 penalties - something Serfontein did not do.
However, I enjoyed the joke provided by you in response.  A lot of meaninglessly concocted phrases - meaning bullshit in abundance.

Meaningless B/S well it wont have any meaning to an uneducated buffoon like you OOm that's apparent. As for your views on Steyn.....not shared by the majority of posters, Keo, Jake White, the Rugby 365 panel, the guys who hand out the MOMs, the commentators  and I'm sure not shared by HM. I'll stick with the majority in this case. As Spock said:

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."

When you are cornered the personal attacks follow immediately.   Lets go back a bit on the site - the strongest supporter on the site of Steyn was Saffex.  He recently was critical of Steyn's performance - like any objective person would be.   I know what White said about Steyn up to the Lions game - since then he was curiously silent about Steyn.
Steyn was so poor in his last three games and the silence of White could mean that he knows he was poor.   White is not going to criticize players in public - neither would he praise them without reason.   So a deadly silence on the part of White follows - so what does that mean???
Your sheepish BS is amazing.  You are nothing but an educated buffoon and that makes you the most laughable member of this site.
I will stick with the Foxsport ratings on Steyn in his last three games:-
*  Reds          =   0*  Bulls          =   5*  Waratahs   =  -4
He is rated no 32 in their center ratings - which shows how shit poor he really was.    His missed process tackles, loss of ball possession and generous contribution of penalties to the opposition count in that case against him - not for him like you want people to believe.

Cornered? You wish old toppie. Saffex is critical of Steyn because he needs a whipping boy to divert attention from the Bools centres....cantcha see that? As for the Fox Sports ratings, they are simply a mechanical compilation of stats.....totally lacking human intelligence. If one were to follow your logic the Bok team would be chosen using Fox Sports ratings....which is exactly how you came up with perfectly ordinary players like Lappies. It's poor rugby selection and poor use of statistics.

Off the mark as per normal - the Springbok team should be selected based on performance and not reputation.
Statistics is not a norm to be applied in selections - but when over a series of matches they show up deficiencies in players, it should be a serious consideration.   It is only a fool who ignores those deficiencies, because in test matches they will be exploited by the opposition.
Statistics are purely an indication of what happens on the field of play - but it has limited usage otherwise because they lack context,   However, when you look carefully at matches you will see why for instance Steyn has defense deficiencies.   He makes some strong tackles - but most of his tackles are fairly routine.
However, in analyzing the missed tackles they are due to two important issues, namely -
*   a very obvious speed deficiency; and*   a resultant mistiming of tackle attempts.
The speed deficiency is further emphasized by the ease players like Harris and Faf de Klerk ran past him without even an attempted tackle.
Have a look with an open mind at games and you will see that i am in fact correct in my assessment.
Where I agree with you is that Serfontein and Engelbrecht has been below par in Super 15 this year.   Engelbrecht has no ball sense and no idea about how to attack the opposition effectively.   As a result he is easily neutralized by the opposition and produce precious little of positive attacking play.  His defense is equally insignificant.
I always was a great admiirer of Serfiontein - but am developing doubts about him.  As an Under-20 player Serfontein was outstanding.   Was it a case of early physical development that gave him an edge over other similarly aged youngsters?  For that reason one must always watch whether youngsters develop further in the game later in their careers.
There are many players who showed brilliance as youngsters and I want to name two examples:-
*   Elton Jantjies*   Jaco Taute
Although the latter showed some promise at full back for the Lions - he has been disappointing of late.   Jantjies definitely is a serious flop at flyhalf,
My question - that raises serious doubts in my own mind is - is Serfontein also an early physical developer which is not maturing as a top class player on senior level?  The jury is out on that one - but present indications are not favourable.
