REACTION: SPRINGBOK COACH ALLISTER COETZEE DOES NOT BELIEVE IN KNEE-JERK REACTIONS BUT WARNED HIS AILING SQUAD MAY BE IN FOR A SHAKE-UP AFTER THEIR 13-41 THUMPING BY NEW ZEALAND ON SATURDAY.

The six-tries-to-one hiding in Christchurch was the Springboks' third consecutive defeat in the Rugby Championship, while it confirmed the All Blacks as winners with two games to spare.

While South Africa, on form, were never considered capable of winning, the gulf between the two sides was bigger than expected. The Springboks are a mere shadow of the side that just missed the 2015 World Cup Final when they were pipped 20-18 by the All Blacks in the semifinal.

A clearly frustrated Coetzee was at a loss to explain why his side played into the All Blacks' hands with a succession of basic errors, including kicking the ball out on the full and dropping simple catches when not under pressure.

"It's obviously very disappointing, the amount of basic errors that we've made. I'd love to have the answer for that. Maybe some players are not ready for this level yet and I will have to make some tough decisions going back home," Coetzee said.

But while indicating heads could roll, Coetzee added that there shouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction.

"Players don't make mistakes deliberately. I think for a lot of them it's their first time playing in New Zealand against the All Blacks, and a brilliant All Blacks team, but this is what international rugby is.

"Players will have to adapt quickly," he added.

The Springboks stayed with the All Blacks for nearly 50 minutes and only trailed 10-15 at half-time. However, the All Blacks were able to increase their tempo as the South Africans tired in the second half and Coetzee could only acknowledge their superiority.

 Coetzee's poor selections couldn't beat the North Eastern Limpopo handicapped team let alone compete in a test.
Much the same to last year's elderly world cup squad who found themselves thumped by the Japanese.
Sadly we haven't seen anything decent from the Boks for near om decade. 

 Mozart i s dumb when he forgets about what happened in the EOYT in 2014 and in 2015.   The EOYT - losses against Ireland and Wales.   2015 - Losses against Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and JAPAN  - according to him those results should be forgotten and the useless past-their-best hasbeens praised.  A dud he is and a dud he will remain.

that's not true,..... the author is valuing a team based on just one match,....... that team was also the one who lost against Japan,.... the one who lost against Argentina at home for the first time,...... the one who lost against Australia,..... the one who lost against Ireland and Wales six months earlier,.....

The boks were very lucky to lose only by 2 against the AB in that semi ,...... very lucky,......

We lost yesterday by 28 points...in the WC semi by 2 points. For luck to have been the only factor we would have been 26 points lucky. That seems excessive....maybe 7 points would be reasonable.

Nope the difference was experience, defence and the absence of disasters like Goosen and Jantjies.

Some also still believe that the Boks were lucky to win the 2007 RWC..... 

Mozart - one more time   Remember Australia, Ireland and Wales in 2014.   2015 - Losses against Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and JAPAN.   If that Springbok lot played against the present AB team they would have lost by 40+ points.   

 Don't think so Mike. The 2015 AB had a ton more experience. The current lot are in a transition phase. Problem is our transition players and coach are hyper kak and not up to Super R ugby lvl never mind test rugby..

I don't think that we could have regressed this much in the space of 10 Months. Meyer made a lot of mistakes when he relied on bulls coaches and players, not to mentioned the veterans he was carrying into the world cup. Also, the lack of competition in the team meant that possible players seeking greener pastures.
Meyers big mistake last year was and before that he planned every minute of matches well in advance and told players how much time they will get and when they will go on. 
If you look and the game we lost against Australia last year, we were leading by 16 points only for dumb substitions to break our momentum.

I have no problem if a coach selects a player not always performing for their union but at least show faith by doing well on the field. 
Nonu is a good example of a player that played exceptionally well for the all blacks but absolutely abysmal for his clubs. For some reason he was just a different player when he put the black Jersey on but for all the other clubs he was hopeless. That just show that the all black had a plan and purpose for him and knew how to get the best out of him
Players Like Le Roux, Pietersen, Kriel and De Allende simply don't become poor over night. Neither do I think Mapoe is a poor player. 
I do have questions of Jantjies and Faf and they showed how they buckled when playing against the kanes. That should have already been a warning sign
I would put this whole mess at SA rugby feet for not thinking about rugby but about how to please the politicians and their pay cheques. 
Short term I think that Coetzee was always the wrong coach. Absolutely useless at the stormers and completely undone the good work Rassie did. 
I would have either gone for Rassie and made sure Ackerman was one of the consultants to the boks. 
We need coaches like White, Mallet and Brendan Venter to be involved in our Super Rugby teams.
We need a single coaching panel that appoints coaches for all unions to ensure that they all work towards the same goal. 
Criticise White all you like but he had a knack of bringing out talented players in a team. Probably not the most entertaining brand but he knew how to prepare a team and get them ready and fit. He never carried players and if they were poor simply dropped them. If you look at the quality of players we had after he left was astounding and the ages. 
I fear for our current crop of players and Wonder what a 45 man squad would look like. 
We have no wings, centers, and especially scrumhalves who can compete against the best in the world

 Sadly I do think we have regressed since the last WC. It's hard to say how much until we replace Jantjies and Goosen. But our loosies are also much weaker. Coetzee is mediocre, but so was Mallett in his last year....his team lost to the Oz by a combined 70 points to 29 in 2000 and won only 6 tests while losing 8.

We could have had Jones if we acted promptly.

U could have the best coach in the world but if u do not select the best players u will never be #1.
With the transformation policy in place no coach is able to select the best so we had better get used to it I'm afraid.
Poor flanks, weak and slow props, no back-line to talk about and we take on the mighty All Blacks.......wow!!!!!
Simple rule is accept the sub-standard team or dismiss them completely.
Can it get any worse........Yes I am sure it will with the ANC pushing for higher and higher quotas.
Watched the NZ/Bok game at the local clubhouse and was surprised at some of the comments made by Canadian rugby players from around the globe regarding the destruction of Springbok rugby.
What a mess South African rugby is in.
Shocking and embarrassing for all of us.
