Boks and overseas players gets complicated

With the Boks at the top of the RC log and every chance to win it even if they lose on Saturday, the question of whether to allow overseas players to play for the Boks has become that much more difficult for Meyer and SARU. Prior to the RC every indication from them was that this was a one-time allowance because of the late commitment by several players to overseas clubs and that going forward there would be a quota or it would not be allowed at all. If the Boks had not played well it would have been easy to institute that rule after the Rugby Championship but now the SA public has tasted the success that an established, experienced squad can bring. Should the EOYT exclude or limit overseas players and the Boks struggle there is sure to be backlash from the public. 

In my opinion overseas players are bound to be included in Bok squads going forward. The writing was on the wall with Habana, Morne and others allowed to play for their clubs on the bye week. As several pointed out here, more than anything it was an overture and gesture of goodwill to those clubs so they will be more willing to release the players for future Bok games. It will be interesting to see how this works itself out in the EOYT

its only complicated because their view on foreign players is stupid. if things get complicated its a pretty sure sign that your doing something wrong. the boks will be a significantly weaker propspect if they dont select these foreigners. simple as this, is he the best in the position? its as simple as yes or no. at least it could be if they wanted it to be, but if they keep draggging their heels on the issue then bok rugby will be the loser and nobody wants that.

good call, the success of the Boks in this years RC/4nats has added a lot of weight behind the logic in selecting overseas players. couple that with the thoughts of the players who are all on song in regards to the matter especially JDV the Boks captain who came out in favour of this process.
it seems the writing is on the wall and this is a part of Bok life now.

personally i still dont think the Boks needed to select those players, but success is far and few in between, so i cant blame them.

IMO selecting SA based players only will allow the frnachises to remain competitive, and while it wont stop everyone from leaving, it will stop the current hemorrhaging of players SA are facing at the moment.

i also believe that by continuing to select overseas players, the Boks dont get to groom the youngsters the way should.
when players leave it shouldnt be viewd as a loss, it should be seen as an opportunity for others, a one door closes and another one opens mentality.

current policies have ensured that NZs domination on super rugby level is set to continue.

on the plus side, the Boks come the RWC will have the added benefit of nearly most of their best players being familiar with NH grounds, that in itself is major bonus and a huge advantage they will have over the All Blacks!!!
