It was 4 difficult tests, and some players are clearly better in Southern Hemisphere conditions - with the positive being the World cup is in Japan.
New players and combinations were tested, and some players had their first EOYT in the slow pitch conditions. The England test was outside the test window, so it was not a first choice Bok team. The most difficult test was against Wales, and fortunately, the Boks did not play Ireland who could have put 15 points over them
EOYT Rankings
1. Kitshoff- 5.5/10. Good 4 nations, average eoyt. Thomas Dutoit is looking the real deal at loosehead.2. Marx - 6/5 - Lineout throwing was bad, but form started to improve as the season went on.3. Flab Malherbe - 4/5/10. After a good 4 Nations, was poor on the EOYT.4. Elizabeth. - 4.5/10 - I am losing patience with this person. Snyman is a better option.5. Mostert - 5.5/10- Not the same player in the Northern Hemisphere6. Kolisi 6/10 - Pretty good, but not enough impact at the breakdown.7. Steph Dutoit 7.5/10 - the most consistent Bok as usual.8. Vermeulen 4/10 - WTF. Thor lost his hammer again. He was piss poor.9. Faff. (4/10). - Only one game, but not very good. 10. Pollard 9/10 - The best Bok on the EOYT. Excellent all-around game.12. Delande 3.5/10 - pathetic. 13. Jessica Kriel 5/10 - he is playing outside of a donkey, so limited opportunities14. Nkosi- 6.5/10. Started well, but faded. Seemed to influenced by injuries. 15. Willie Leroux 6.5/1011. Dyanti- 6/10 First tour of the Northern Hemisphere. Good in patches had very limited space. Got exposed on defence a few times- and is possibly the weak link on defence for the Boks.
ReservesLoosehead prop- Thomas Dutoit 7/10 is looking good. Hooker- Bongi 6/10. A solid backup that is very physical and has a good throw. Number 6/Fetcher- Francois Louw 6.5/10 Has improved as the season has progressed and been effective at the breakdown.Scrumhalf- Papier - 7/10. Still has some rough edges, but could become a polished diamond.Wing- Kolbi 7/10 - He is dangerous and needs to be brought into the game more.Lock- Lomp - 2.5/10- He needs to be dropped off somewhere. Inside Center- Carthuizen 3/10Fullback- Willemse 6/10. Getting more comfortable at test level.Lock- RG Snyman- 7/10. I would prefer to start him that Eztebeth.
Tighthead- Koch 6/10- Not ideal
Negatives.Midfield is crap. Teams are marking Willie Leroux out of the game as the key playmaker, so we need to find an inside centre, otherwise, it would be better to start Jantjies or Willemse at 10, with Pollard at 12. I do not believe the starting bok midfield is good enough to make the Boks contenders at the world cup.
Loose forwards are not effective enough at the breakdown, other than Louw who got better as the season progressed.
Positives -Jantjies/Pollard combination. Some brains on the field to replace the empty vessel's Delande/Carthuizen
-Scrumhalf - Papier has developed into a good backup scrum-half.
-Willemse is getting his sea legs at test level.-Squad depth and system- players change, but the system does not fall apart. Consistency is developing with whatever teams start. Kolbi is dangerous in space. If Willie Leroux or new centres could get him into the game more
