A great start- but the confirmation of Rassie's ability and the player's skills will be in the 4 nations and also the end of the year tour. England just seemed to fall apart under pressure, despite opening both games very well.
South Africa also looked good against France last year at home, and even Ok against Ireland the year before. Only to then get destroyed by the All Blacks and then pulverised on the EOYT.
Tight 5The tight 5 has the most depth in the current squad, and perhaps ever. We have locks and props to burn, as well with the best hooker in the world with Bongi as the backup.
Coenie Oosthuizen and Thomas the Tank are tight heads with Beast and Kitchoff both world-class looseheads.
Coenie is effective at the breakdown and in loose play. Trevor Nykani can cover both sides of the scrum so he is a certainty.

Our rolling maul is back after limited use over the prior 2 years.
Scrums have been good, and lineouts have also been good.Kickoffs have been solid, but for some reason, Delande takes most of these.
Loose forwardsVermeulen is clearly still a top quality player. Whiteley is returning who could do well in the open running game the Boks are playing.
Kolisi is solid, not the same form as his best tests last year.
With Marx and Vermeulen the breakdown should go well. Kolisi was having more effect at the breakdown today than last week.
Stephanie has been solid as a loose forward and strengthens the scrum, lineout and kick off's. He is relatively mobile and his work rate is good
Center is problematic with no ideal candidates for inside or outside the centre. Esterhuizen is a strong defender, ball carrier and ok in distribution.
Flyhalf and scrum-half have depth issues. Defence out wide is a problem, especially on the left side.

So, the nett result up to the result between the USA and Scotland saw SA move from 7 to 5. I checked the rankings calculator when I saw this thread and saw that third was out of the question. I decided to wait for the end of the weekend’s internationals and see what the result with be with all the final scores confirmed. Google “World Rugby Rankings Calculator”.

@Ceradyne- It did seem like a big jump for winning 2 tests. The only way I thought it could have been possible is because England has a high ranking, and the Boks had a low ranking.
I tried that calculator- ticking the most recent results. However, it did not seem to have any effect afterwards. Also not sure it has been labelled well as it says last week was the prior update- even when the boxes are ticked to include the most recent matches.

If the Boks win this weekend, from what I understand - the Boks will gain little to no points because England is now below the Boks.
However, if England wins, the Boks will certainly drop to 6th.
If Australia lose, and the Boks win- the Boks should go to 4th.
Not sure if Wales are playing this weekend, but if they were to lose, with the Boks winning and Austalia losing- the Boks could potentially go to third.

@SB. You can play around with permutations on that calculator to see what happens. You have mentioned that if SA win and Aus lose again this weekend...... I just used the exact same scores from the past weekend to see what would happen.
I know that it is highly unlikely to happen (an exact repeat of the scores) but I just wanted to see what effect of a win for SA and a loss for Aus would be. You are correct. It will see SA move up to four ahead of Aus in five.
