The Springboks have scored 11 tries in their last two Tests against the All Blacks at Ellis Park. Expect more of the same on Saturday.
The All Blacks have only ever conceded 40 points three times in their history. Once was in a 41-32 defeat against France in Marseilles. The other two times were at Ellis Park, in 2000 and in 2004, and it is the only two times the Boks have hosted the All Blacks at their spiritual home in the last 10 years. (HOW STUPID IS THAT!!!!!!!!!)
The Boks know how to score tries against the All Blacks at Ellis Park.
And the All Blacks know how to be spooked at Ellis Park.
The London Telegraph’s Mick Cleary wrote that Ellis Park is a venue where even the All Blacks fear to tread.(Why the even I wonder ?)
It is certainly no impossibility that the Boks will score four tries on Saturday and win by more than seven points. (You listening kiwi bird brains and Cloudy - for rooitwit and Boklogics benefit)
The All Blacks need a bonus point only to win their second successive Rugby Championship. The Boks must win with a bonus point and ensure the Kiwis get nothing.
It isn’t unfamiliar territory, as witnessed in 2000 and 2004. In 2000, the Boks led 33-13 at half-time, but with 10 minutes to go trailed 40-39. Werner Swanepoel scored the sixth try in a six try to four win as the hosts triumphed 46-40.
Nick Mallett coached the Boks that day.(Now there is a really good coach not coaching an SA side - crazy really)
In 2004 Jake White was in charge of a Bok team that retired half the All Blacks starting line-up that got whipped 40-26 (No wonder the abs live in such dread of Ellis Park and the Boks). The Boks scored five tries to two and Marius Joubert got only the second Springbok hattrick against the Boks.

1992 All Blacks 27 Springboks 24
Historic first test between the two since isolation. The All Blacks bolted out to a decent lead as their grasp of regular test match rugby told on their less sophisticated foes. The pack’s cohesion, a quick-thinking Zinzan Brooke try and Grant Fox’s kicking gave them a lead to soak up the Boks’ spirited late comeback.
1995 Springboks 15 All Blacks 12
The World Cup final to top all. The whole day was astonishing – the pre-match food poisoning, Jonah Lomu’s tackling bounty, the jumbo jet fly-past, Nelson Mandela’s appearance, the extra-time drop goal climax in Joel Stransky’s favour, the relentless revelry.(The pre match poisoning - do these kiwis actually believe this nonsense - the abs played well over 80 minutes of rugby suffering from food poisoning. 1996 Springboks 32 All Blacks 22
The All Blacks had lost some of their sting after claiming their first series win in South Africa the week before. The teams scored three tries each but Andrew Mehrtens, back after missing the previous two tests, was not as sharp with his goalkicking as Henry Honiball and Andre Joubert.
1997 All Blacks 35 Springboks 32
Four tries to two should have nailed the test for the visitors but Jannie de Beer’s extraordinary tally of conversions, penalties and dropped goals kept the Boks in there. Carlos Spencer’s goalkicking could be erratic but his nerve held for six successes and the narrow triumph.
2000 Springboks 46 All Blacks 40
There were 10 tries in this free-ranging match, the Boks leading 33-13 in the first half until Mehrtens’ drop goal 15 minutes from time had the All Blacks in front. A converted Bok try reversed that before the All Blacks’ vain search for victory from a scrum in front of the Bok posts.
2004 Springboks 40 All Blacks 26
Lithe Bok centre Marius Joubert made three of his side’s tries as they applied more heat than the All Blacks. Defeat ended the visitors’ chances of a Tri-Nations title and sparked all sorts of changes (notably Daniel Carter to first five-eighth) for the end-of-year tour to Europe.
So winning the RC is still on and should we win the game regardless morally the trophy is ours given the travesty re Bissie etc.
