BOKS RUE COSTLY MISTAKES IN SALTA; Rugby 365

EACTION: SATURDAY'S MATCH AGAINST ARGENTINA IN SALTA WAS THE SPRINGBOKS' FIFTH OUTING OF THE 2016 SEASON, BUT THEY STILL HAVE NOT IMPROVED MUCH SINCE THEIR LOSS TO IRELAND IN CAPE TOWN IN JUNE.

The Argentinians outplayed the Springboks for large parts of the game to hang on for an historic 26-24 win - their first on home soil against the Boks.

The South Africans did show glimpses of what they can do with ball in hand when things did go their way, but for most of the game, costly mistakes on attack and on defence, poor decision making and poor communication blighted their game. 

"First of all I would like to congratulate Argentina on their victory," Springbok head coach Allister Coetzee told reporters after the game.

"They put us under pressure and we made some crucial mistakes and they took their opportunities better than us. 

"The one positive was the way we came back in the second half, but obviously we are very disappointed with the many individual mistakes we made."

Converting pressure into points is something the Boks have been struggling with all season and it was again evident in Salta. 

They failed to capitalise on a number of try-scoring opportunities in the Argentinian half, while Elton Jantjies and Morne Steyn were unable to convert a few crucial penalty kicks at goal. 

"We had enough opportunities to build scoreboard pressure, but we did not take those opportunities. 

"I am not singling out any players, but at Test level you must take your opportunities. If you get close to the tryline you must finish it and we did not do that today," Coetzee added.

The Springboks next face the Wallabies in Brisbane before they meet the mighty All Blacks in Christchurch and Coetzee admitted that they have a lot of hard work ahead of them

"The defeat is hurting and the Springboks will never be satisfied with a loss. We will regroup and work hard to improve as a team so that we can be ready for the next Test against Australia in Brisbane," said Coetzee.

So the kicking game was a problem for the boks but they also did not generate enough attack. Sure they made some critical mistakes but they have to generate more opportunities to win games or else they put too much pressure on themselves & critical mistakes will be magnified.

 We still aren't getting it.....the Bargies were simply better in every compartment except ironically the scrums and the lineouts.  It wasn't a question of mistakes, it was not being good enough. As a matter of fact the Bargies' handling was slicker than ANYTHING  the Boks have produced this year.
We want to play a game that we are probably the least equipped in the RC to play. Tellingly our attack was much better in the second half when we ran committed lines rather than using last second  flippy passes.....much better after Jantjies left. He was ineffective as was his role model the Qualude.

 Just another feeble attempt to promote Morne Steyn.
Jantjies was awful ... but Morne was no better. 
Goosen should have been slotted in as the starting 10 and Morne left in Europe where he belongs.
It's just not logical to replace a sub standard player with another sub standard rugby player. 

 Oh so now you want Goosen at 10....the man who turned the ball over to the opponents 5 times. Smart.

 No ... I'd prefer him in Europe ... but with the shoddy display we saw from Jantjies last week it was the logical thing to do.

I could have a flagon of Chateau d'Yquem.....but Jantjies and Goosen would still be no hopers.

 "Who would think we would be here drinking Chateau de Chateau eh ? Ahh but it were all green fields back then...."

 I doubt Goosen isa fullback. However who exactly thrives in the Bok backline it being the shambles it is.Goosen to me looks much more likely to succeed as a fly half. Willie remains our best fullback and never should have been dispensed with.
