NEWS: THE SPRINGBOKS COULD BE SHORT ON NO.8S FOR THEIR SERIES DECIDER AGAINST IRELAND IN PORT ELIZABETH NEXT WEEKEND.

Springbok team doctor Konrad von Hagen confirmed on Sunday that Duane Vermeulen and Warren Whiteley sustained elbow and shoulder injuries respectively in the 32-26 win against Ireland in the second Test in Johannesburg.

"Duane, Trevor and Warren will undergo further scans on Monday in order to determine the extent of their injuries," said the team doctor.

Lock Lodewyk de Jager, who sat out the Johannesburg match because of a calf strain, is undergoing physiotherapy at the moment and a decision on his availability will be made later in the week.

Meanwhile, Springbok flyhalf Patrick Lambie was on Sunday ruled out of the third Test match as a result of the concussion he suffered in the first meeting between the two teams in Cape Town on June 15.

Lambie suffered concussion following a collision with the Irish flank CJ Stander, who received a red card for the incident and a subsequent one-week suspension.

The Bok flyhalf was sent home last Sunday for a weeklong mandatory rest according to the World Rugby Return to Play Protocol, ruling him out of the second Test.

"Pat is still experiencing symptoms of concussion and because of that we cannot start the Return to Play Protocol. As a result of that he will unfortunately not be available for selection," explained Von Hagen.

The Springboks will start their preparations for next Saturday's series decider with an open training session on Monday afternoon at the Zwide Rugby Club.
