Marx has not been playing well, and the lineouts certainly improved with Bongi on the field. Would Marx have been accurate on that last throw that setup the rolling maul for the try?

Marx was on point against France, but was very poor against England. I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the issue as of yet. He does perform better when Mostert is calling the lineouts. I'll have to review that sometime. That said, Bongi is a good player. Some unfairly stuck the boot in when he made a couple or errors in the last two games of the RC. He is generally very accurate in all phases of the game. I'd give him a start against Scotland. Give Marx a rest for Wales.

There is quite a few failures in the team who played on Saturday.   Start off with Whiteley and add to that Kolisi, Vermeulen and Mostert.

Vermeulen is no flank and never has been - he is a specialist no 8.  I think the game would be more like the game played in the SH on SR level.   There is nothing to be done - bar to strengthen the Tight 5 and Marx could be replaced in such a case and the locks strengthened by removing Mostert.

There is nothing to be done with Kolisi - so move Du Toit to 7 and Vermeulen to 8.

As to the locks I think that there will be a change - Etzebeth will be brought back and either Schickerling or De Jager will be his lock partner,

The Scots will be forced into keeping their loosies nearer to the Tight level of playing to contain the Springbok forwards and the backs will have the scope to play better than they did against the French,

Beware of the defense breakdown in the midfield if Esterhuizen is picked at inside center.

Mostert gets very high Augie....check out the winning lineout. Perhaps part the problem against the Poms was Marx is just used to throwing the ball higher to the back because Mostert can get up there.

Mozart

You have one thing in common with AO - you make wild statements without any p roof whatsoever - so prejudice becomes the norm.  Have you any proof whatsoever - that Mostert jumps higher in line-outs than any of the other locks?

Proof please - the BS would not help in this case.

Proof? Most lineout wins in Super Rugby this year for Mostert....highest accuracy in Super Rugby for Marx throwing most often to Mostert. So Mostert is likely higher or stronger on those balls, and even I will concede he isn't stronger.

You claimed Mostert jumped higher than any other lock - the challenge was for you to provide proof - none but normal BS was forthcoming.

There is one proof of being better in line-outs and that is taking opposition balls in line-out throw-ins.  How many did Mostert take in tests this year - I cannot remember a single one.   Du Toit took some - Mostert did not,

Now back to SR,   Mostert called most lie-outs to go to him - but even in the case of the Lions there were plenty of cases where throw-in inaccuracies caused possession losses.  Marx always had that problem - in some matches it is pronounced , in some matches it does not happen.   To say it never happens when Mostert is calling line-outs is utter and TOTAL BS.

Sorry Mozart - start thinking before writing garbage on site.

Nope there weren't plenty of cases when throw-in inaccuracies caused possession losses, otherwise Marx wouldn't have led the Super Rugby stats for accuracy

I don't mind Bongi.

Doesn't set the world on fire but he's an athlete and hasn't ever really let us down.

Glad he's getting a start and hope he does well o n Saturday.

To be honest, I think both Marx and PSDT need a rest. They have both been overplayed. And both play high impact rugby. Marx puts his body on the line in general, but fetching has its very own set of risks. While PSDT puts his body on the line in every single game, more than any other Bok I can think of. I don't want to get into an argument about his performances, but nobody can deny his commitment on defense, and the impact that must have on his body. Considering how injury prone he was early in his career, and how high risk his style of play is, it is actually a miracle he isn't injured more often. I remember a few fol ks here saying he was not robust enough for test rugby, I can't remember who that was, but I think he has since proved them wrong.

I agree with you about the real need for rest by both players - but the question is what is to be done about the critical no 7 position in the team.   Louw was tried there twice in tests this year and failed badly - he is a low activity player anyway.   Mostert was tried in that position by the Lions and did not meet requirements.

I wish J-L du Preez was on tour and could help out at 7 or even a player like Van Dyk of the Stormers/WP.

No player is indispensable - but it would be a major problem to give Du Toit a well-deserved rest.
