Bookies think SA Team will beat Wales

"Rassie Erasmus will get his role as Springbok coach off to a winning start in Saturday's historic one-off Test against Wales in Washington DC, if bookmakers are to be believed...

Erasmus, who took over from Allister Coetzee at the helm of the national side earlier this year, has named an inexperienced 23-man side to do battle in the American capital.

No fewer than seven uncapped players have been named in the starting XV, with another six on the bench.

Wales for their part, have also named a virtually unrecognisable match-day squad for the clash which falls outside of World Rugby's Test window and has drawn widespread criticism as a result.

Erasmus himself was honest in saying the Test was "all about the money".

Leading SA bookies BET.co.za have installed the Boks as 2/5 favourites, while Wales can be backed at 23/10.

The draw is on offer at 19/1.

The match at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which has a capacity of just under 46 000, will kick off at 23:00 SA time."

I think this is an easy way to make some much needed money.   A R200 bet on Wales winning would be the way to go.  

I think the bookies could well have made the odds more in favour of  SA (of themselves and not the punter) based on presumption knowledge than deeper knowledge of the selection...this game is the way I see it a lottery. Lots of inexperience in the major testing arena...a lot of nerves and untried combinations under pressure...inexperienced players all eager to perform but without enough time and experience to combine and knit together as a team unit.

I expect the game to be a little untidy and error prone with tries coming opportunistically....a gamble...yes I hope I'm wrong but this could well end up in favour of Wales.

Bookies put their own money in.

This game is a fundraiser game to help SA rugby out of their financial woes. WA is the charitable chap who agreed to a favour for SA. They will take their share of the money and move on.

Game has no sporting value.

SA are under pressure because commercially their brand is worth less and less money. It matters most for them to perform. The stake is high.

For WA, nothing like that, they are already on holiday.

While you think about over-the- hill  hasbeens and never-hasbeens - I think about options for the future,   So stupidity in personal attacks made by you reigns supreme as the result of dementia and lack of comprehension of any rugby-related  issues.

Well Mike is a pensioner Mozart...he is not a high flyer and is probably more content living a simple country life with genuine country folk than most of us...you on the otherhand boast about your millions of dollars...anyway I see no value and importance of bragging about wealth...it certainly is no judge of ability and character...he is probably a lot happier than most of us.

Maaik, I nearly had a bet too but I'm not a gambling man...I take the odd flutter for fun...and have sometimes been lucky...I backed 2 July winners a few years ago...just for fun, 2 fillies Ipi Tombe and Dancers Daughter both ridden by Kevin Shea...made a few bob.

My late father took the odd flutter...I remember way back in the late sixties, I think 1968 he backed Chimboraa in the July...ridden by David Payne...it paid R57 for R1 on the tote. Incidentally dad said that Chimboraa had won a 10.5 furlong race before but this did not reflect on the race card...he was quite shrewd on these matters...could often pick upsets.He said he always backed good jockeys...David, before he got overweight was a crack jockey in those days...he bought Tiger Wrights old house in Hillcrest and went training instead...as you know he is now in Oz and made quite a name for himself

While we're in the States surely the rulebook must sort out backlines which  have a defence and offence shadow run.

This is more like American Football,a team has a whole string of players standing or moving to block the opposing backlines vision and run at the ball carriers.

It took iron to be able to watch that game after watching the insult on rugby played earlier as the final of the french championship.

SA team nearly managed to offer the same lack of quality.

Previous quota coach was destroyed for his lack of gameplan, but the one exhibited during this game, awful piece of stuff. Dreadful stuff, material for nightmare.

As so often, SA were unable to initiate backline play and all it took to a welsh side on holiday to win was to read those easy to read passing patterns to counter and gain ground.

What a game to promote rugby in the US.
