Bools
I think the bools are trying to be the Manchester of rugby by trying to win 3 titles, but it is imploding on them.
They are now out of the EC and only have the URC but languishing in 8th. No hope of a home semi and will now have to travel again. Only 2 games left and then more travelling.
It doesn't help that the all the travelling has messed the SA teams up. Last I counted there were 6 trips. It is better than going to east to Aus, but it doesn't help if you have to travel for 24h via Dubai in economy class.
The SA teams will need to use their clout and push for a better travelling Agenda in both European Championship and URC.
I would almost opt for 4 weeks in Wales and then have all Irish teams travel to SA and have a month of hosting the Irish teams in SA. Then swap with the welsh teams and have all 4 in SA for four weeks and then SA teams in Ireland.
I would then go for 2 weeks in Scotland / Italy and do the same. Those games can then be played together with European cups.
So SA teams only have to travel twice and be away for 8 weeks total.
I would also invest in a UK base for the SA teams be housed and have access to decent training facilities. They can also create a base in Italy or Portugal and then just fly over but would be better if they were in one country for 4 or 2 weeks rather than having to still travel so much.
Wales and Ireland are small. It would be a great festival of rugby and will bring that tour feeling we use to get from Super Rugby.
I think the Welsh and Irish teams would enjoy it too given they get a proper tour.
The only problem we have are the International Test Windows.
Dave
I must agree with you that White is not the only one to blame for the present Bulls disaster - but he is a major contributor to it nonetheless, White is known for being good in his first year fo coaching and in the succeeding years teams coached by him weakened. Why should that be the case?
Indications are that he treats players like they are school children and that he ahs favorites in teams selected for their loyalty to him as coach. In other words team renewal and selection of teams where changes are in fact needed - is never a consideration. That was the main reason why he was fired in 2014 when coaching the Sharks and nothing seems to have changed.
I think Jake is on a shortlist for firing by the Bulls. Their paymasters Rupert and Montsepe (owning combined 74,5% of the shares in the Bulls franchise) will not be happy as to what is going on so another firing could happen soon.
