The Toyota Free State Cheetahs were dealt a massive blow not only in their Absa Currie Cup campaign, but also ahead of Super Rugby as Bok flanker Heinrich Brussow was ruled out for six months with a shoulder injury.

Brussow injured himself in Saturday’s win over GWK Griquas, and after assessing his injury, it was decided to let him undergo surgery to the shoulder to ensure he can return as early as possible for next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.

It is the second time that Brussow has been injured this year. He missed a long spell from the end of Super Rugby and the first four Currie Cup games because of a knee injury.

Since his return, he has played only four games in the Currie Cup and now is only expected back towards the end of March.

There is no doubt his loss is a massive blow to the Cheetahs, compounded even more by the fact he is the team’s fifth loose forward to be ruled out for the season.

On top of that, Hendro Scholtz, who was coaxed out of retirement, has to undergo concussion tests this week to see if he passes a fitness test.

The Cheetahs already have Juan Smith, Boom Prinsloo, Kabamba Floors and Frans Viljoen on the sidelines with injury.

Looks like he is unfortunately finished at bok level. As soon as he starts to regain form he gets injured again, or even before he regain form. I think at last years worldcup he was carrying some form of injury as he never got back into form, or he may just never return to the 2009 form.

That's rotten luck for Brussouw...still like him. Maybe he'll come back and find the form he had earlier in his career.

Sorry about the injury to Brussow - but he was not performing well after his last injury.   He lost a lot of pace and was never near enough to even try to get turnovers.   Could not achieve much under the present laws in any event and was giving away too many penalties.

I do not think there ever was really any intent of Meyer to draft him into the Bok squad.   I think his international career went out of the window  last year already and was always surprised by the people on this site suggesting that he should be selected in the number 6 position.

Hope he recovers fully and continue to play for the Cheetahs in Super 15 level.
