Victor Matfield is bracing for a fierce clash as the Vodacom Bulls prepare to storm the lion's den—Croke Park—for the URC final against Leinster this Friday night. Having battled there himself in 2009, Matfield vividly recalls the daunting atmosphere that awaits.

"Croke Park brings out the tribalism in the locals," Matfield noted, reflecting on his intense experience from 17 years ago when the Springboks faced a tough defeat. "You step into the den there, and it's like nowhere else."

"We got absolutely smashed [15-10]. The mist was hanging so thick you couldn’t see the ball when it was kicked up in the air. It was brutally cold, and the fans were louder than anything I had experienced before."

Despite the harsh conditions and the loss, Matfield holds the memory dear, emphasizing the electric atmosphere of that night. "It was a great experience. And this upcoming Friday night will be no different—two teams, full throttle. It’s going to feel very tribal."

Matfield urged the Bulls to embrace the challenge: "The Bulls will need to step into the lion's den and attempt to slay the lion. It won't be easy, but it will definitely be memorable."

On the other side, former Leinster captain Isa Nacewa shared his insights from the home team's perspective, underscoring Croke Park's significance in Irish sports culture. "It's a phenomenal stadium, a very special place," he said, recalling a derby against Munster that transformed the stadium into a cauldron of noise and color.

"During the warm-up, it was a sea of Munster red. But then the Leinster supporters arrived, and the atmosphere erupted into something truly special."

The stage is set for a dramatic showdown under the Friday night lights, where history, passion, and rugby prowess will collide to crown the champions of the URC. As the teams gear up for this epic battle, the only certainty is that the roar of the crowd will be as fierce as the action on the field.
