Fans slam camo kit for InvisiBulls
  • 28 Nov 2013

The Bulls' new away jersey

The Bulls new camouflage away kit for Super Rugby has received an overwhelmingly negative response on SA Rugby magazine's Facebook page.

According to the Bulls website, 'with camouflage being a major seasonal fashion trend across the globe, the fanwear has a cool, fun appeal – the shirts retail for R649 and can be snapped up as an ideal festive season gift in either or both colourways.'

However, judging from the comments on Facebook (and Twitter) not too many of these jerseys are going to be sold.

Here are some of the comments:

Nou sal Spies heeltemal verdwyn op die veld! – Danie Visser

It's a joke, right? – Elana Fourie

I forgave the pink/jacaranda away jersey but this is taking it too far. – Marvin Barnabas

Are the people designing the shirts blind– Gillian Price

Pathetic. Have some respect for what sport really means – it is NOT war. – Aristide du Plessis

Are they playing rugby or are they going hunting– Tyrone Engel

However, there was the odd positive comment, like this one:

I honestly think it's the coolest kit ever. Kudos to Puma for thinking out the box. I'm a Sharks supporter and I wish they were this adventurous. – Christopher Osmond

Whether or not it looks "cool" and/or "rad" is one thing, but this could be very clever in fact. The design helps to merge, visually, players into an indiscernible mass not much unlike that of the Zebra. It won't be long before teams complain that the jersey is affecting their defenses. Imagine you have players peeling around corners and just off the shoulder; it's very hard to visually sum up the moment in that split second. The Bulls clearly have been following the way of Master Tzu, I'm flattered.

Foolish move bulle makes you look dafter than usual. Fancy this after the pink debacle of last year that made some old bulle fans turn intheir graves. As a WP fan it was hilarious and what an opportunity to get in a few chirps!

i liked taking the mickey out of the pink jersey, but there was nothing wrong with it, it was trendy in a i dont give a lighthearted F kind of way.
the bulls female fans seemed to love the pink jersey too, a pink away jersey is a very easy and smart way to make the female contingent feel more part of the bulls family, and we saw plenty of male die hard bulls fans wearing them too.

would have been nice for them to keep the pink, but the camo gears looks pretty sick too IMO, reminds me of COD.

i just hope the south african public arent planning on using the bulls away jersey to get closer to the action and throw bottles at the NZ players heads just cos their team lost,

It looks weird - but certainly not weirder than the nipple pink - colour for all suckers - outfit they used last year.   This is an idea of the sponsors - and we have to put up with it - I suppose.  Wonder whether the Blue Bulls - will in future be the Camouflage Bulls hiding n the bottom spot of the Super 15 log?

I thought the pink jersey was in support of cancer awareness - this is a noble cause indeed.
I am biting my tongue about the camoflage kit in the interests of forum harmony but not sure how much longer I can hold out

Or maybe just catching onto the last one? And when they get there they find everyone else has moved on. I guess there may be pundits who reckon that represents the way they play rugby too.
