 Ex Superport

Stormers flank Schalk Burger will undergo a minor procedure on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a recent operation to reduce pressure on a nerve that was affecting his calf muscle, his agent said.

Burger underwent surgery at the end of March, on a nerve in his back, and would now have that wound drained in hospital.

"Schalk has had a tough time, but he has been recovering well at home and has been in better spirits of late," said Burger's agent.

"He will return to hospital (on Wednesday) to have the wound drained and cleaned up and he will return home when the doctors are happy that he is well enough (to do so)."

Burger contracted bacterial meningitis after his operation in March and continued to recover from that setback. It was not known when he would be fit to return to training.

Chin up Schalkie the dark night will soon be over. I am confident you will come back and remind some here of the great player you are.

Ntanga Schalk is a fighter second to none if its possible for him to come back he will.

Snapster will argue he is too old. However he is 30 and well rested  -two years younger than mcaaaw. He could have two good years left. we shall see.  Bok squad needs depth and this type of spirit and experience. It was no mistake when Meyer was considering him as Bok captain.  He is an all time great.

True, they don't like him over here in the NH because they know exactly what he brings on to the table once on the field. They nick-named him Eye-Gouger, relating to an incident that happened during Boks VS Lions in 2009. despite all that, pound 4 pound mate, he's the real deal, period

Something must have gone amiss with that operation - first of all he got meningitis - now the wound has not healed properly and he must have the would drained.   Medically there must be a complication.

Sepite all the praise-singing I dounbt it very much if Burger will play this year again - so wait till he is back and see whether he does play again for the Stormers.   May follow the overseas route since he is rapidly approaching retirement age.
