Butch James- The Lions most Experienced Player- On the Bench?

Before his suspension- he played most of the games on the bench. Mitchell has blamed his whole super crap season on injuries/lack of experience.

However he put his most experienced player on the bench, not only for Flyhalf but inside center.

Is Mitchell, really a good coach- He calls many of his players below standard of Super 15, and should not be playing at this level- but puts a proven international player and super15 palyer on the bench- who then gets frustrated and reverts to this frog style of tackling.

Mitchell seems to have a game plan, not a plan based on the strengths and weaknesses of his player resource caliber. A perfectionist coach, who cant meet his own standard of coaching.

Is Butch past his best, of very well past his best? so much so, that he should not even make a Lions team that the under 17 netball team could beat?

Mitchell is regarded as an arrogant and sour person. A perfectionist that hassles and stifles the team. Jake is a perfection as well, but unlike Mitchell, he works to create a positive working environment that sets players up to succeed and be rewarded for their hard work. Even further than this, He takes responsibility for his own failings.

The Lions woes are more to do with the coach than the players. Eloff got far more with less and Jake has done more with even less than that! There can be no excuses. I warned these Saffers that Mitchell should be catiously welcomed, but they went so far as to even call for him to be Bok coach. Why? A misplaced belief that anything from New Zealand is gold. Do they so quickly forget how he left the Western Force?

As for Butch? I don't understand what the plan was with him. He is clearly not an inside centre, we discovered this as far back as the 2002 End of Year Tour and Peter learnt this the hard way in 2010 and 2011. After Butch exclaimed that he doesn't feel comfortable at 12, the question must be asked, why was he brought into the squad? I think they could have made uch better use of him from the start of the campaig at 10 over the overrated Jantjies. As it is, this whole thing is one big mess that can only be sorted from the top down. Spencer has also been allowed too much influence over this team as they strive for a style of play that just doesn't work. The sooner these two go the better, they can take Plumtree with them.

Mitchell has the worst record of any Super Rugby coach, ever. Lost something like 65 games.

Butch is a serial thug. I bet he hurts someone again tomorrow.

I thought Butch was starting at 12?

Give me Mitchell over Jake anyday - no contest

Nothing wrong with Mitchell as a coach as we saw when lions played some very nice rugby in wining Currie Cup. Unortunately injuries and abelow par squand ended whatever chance they might have had of fininshing in the top 10.

Butch is long since past it. Not too surprised he doesnt get too much game time. If he does play he needs to play flyhalf as he is no center. But Jantjes is now a better bet.

Case closed.

The Currie Cup means nothing. It was obvious that the Lions were never going to have a good Super XV, it was all media hype.
