It has been a historic fact that no team has won two WC's in succession. The main reason always was the same - the winning team did near to zero as to player renewal and tried to use the same players in the succeeding WC.
South Africa did the same in 2011 and the result is evident - no chance of success at all. However, what is really disturbing is that Meyer -
* is insisting to use players who failed in the 2011 WC as a key part of his present squad; and, what IS EVEN MORE DISTURBING
* is desperately trying to get back players from the 2007 campaign for the 2015 WC.
Meyer will basically select anything from that era who can still move to play at present and he will glorify their acxhievvements in matches - when anybody can see that their performances have been average to poor.
It is an acknowledged fact that rugby players are at their prime performances stage when they are in the age group 25 to 30 years. A minority of players mature before reaching the said age group and there are a small number of players over 30 years of age that can still participate.
There are two issues relating to the over 30 players, namely -
* in De Villiers' own words - you have to train twice as hard to maintain the levels you used to maintain; and
* players over 30 are more injury prone than their younger counter-parts and takes longer to recover from injury.
We cannot try and go into the WC with that lot you are mentioning in your posting. Only a small minority - mostly backline p[layers - would potentially make the grade. I would say that based on present form we can count on only the following to be potential candidates for 2015:-
Bismarck, Strauss, De Villiers and Habana.
The rest are just not of good enough standard at present to keep playing them in their declining rugby years.
