I see many SA rugby websites are being dominated by heated discussions about the infamous "Cape Crusaders" . . . the Capetonians who wear Crusaders or All Black jerseys and cheer the Crusaders and All Blacks whenever they play at Newlands.

First off, I can understand why local Capetonians don't want to support their overrated and pathetic Stompies. Who wouldn't support the opposition if your only alternative was a bunch of chest-beating overrated little pansies masquerading as rugby players?

Secondly, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that 90% of the hand-wringing crybabies who are all bleating about South Africans supporting overseas teams don't give a flying toss about Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs and they all support Manchester United.

It's hilarious seeing a bunch of loud-mouthed Blowhard hypocrites (who regularly boo other teams and behave in a disgraceful manner themselves) having a group wobbly and stamping their feet in self-righteous indignation because some of the locals have the temerity to support the opposition . . . made even funnier after the Hapless Stompies were humiliated by a Crusader "B" team!

LMAO!

rooitwit read my post about loonies  and their errors and maybe you will wise up. I say maybe because of your very limited intellectual capacity!

I seem to recall rooitwit that you were all condemnatory about these cape crusader supporters and used that to beat up on us. However now your true crusader colours are showing it seems. What a turncoat!

The crustacians beat our C team as I prove conclusively in my post.  C comes after B rooitwit - just help you figure all this out.

Ou rooitwit all at sea as usual!!!

Carpetmuncher: "they tend to hate any other team that plays against the boks and SA teams that stems from the apartheid years."

So you're saying that they hate any team that plays against the Springboks and SA teams? I thought it was the opposite . . . but either way, your reply still doesn't explain where there's any racism involved, let alone "racism in its purist (sic) form".

i know rooinek its such a strange point to argue but that is there twisted warped logic from what i can gather.

look to be fair if you know the mentality of some of these cape crusaders then the picture will become a lot clearer. they tend to be anti establishment support anything thing of anyone that is not local. half of them dont even know why they are supporting the crusaders but they still do because gatiep down the road does and then he also needs to follow suite. one can only be at newlands during a match and hear the way in which these people conduct themselves paired with the racial slurs towards the other peoplle just there trying to watch some rugby

watching rugby at newlands is one of the most unsavoury things one can do in cape town these days. that is only due to the crowd and there behaviour.

Carpetmuncher, please re-read what you have said on this thread and confirm whether these Cape Crusaders hate non-South African teams or whether they hate South African teams . . . because you appear to be saying both . . . and that makes absolutely no sense.

Also, note that supporting something that is not local does not constitute "racism". You haven't provided a single example of any racist behaviour from these Cape Crusaders. Are you sure you know what the word "racism" means?

WP: FAN BEHAVIOUR REASON FOR TEST SNUB

03 APR

WP president Thelo Wakefield says the behaviour of Cape-based New Zealand rugby supporters is why Saru no longer stages Tests between the Springboks and All Blacks at Newlands.

Following several incidents between Crusaders and Stormers fans this past Saturday, Saru has written to Western Province and demanded that the Cape union addresses the issue. According to Wakefield, the union will launch a full investigation and come up with solutions to prevent future problems.

Wakefield told the Cape Times that he feels Saru has not scheduled a Test between the Boks and All Blacks at Newlands since 2008 due to the hostile environment between the respective groups of supporters.

While Stormers and South African supporters are in the majority, there is a sector of locals that prefer to support New Zealand-based Super Rugby franchises and the New Zealand Test side. There has been conflict between the two groups in the past, and this past Saturday, there were even instances of violence in the stands.

'It makes it tougher and tougher to get the All Blacks to play in Cape Town,' Wakefield told the newspaper. 'I am losing the battle at Saru to convince the executive to play the All Blacks Test in Cape Town. I think all these incidents at Stormers-Crusaders games are the major reason why Saru takes the All Blacks rather to Port Elizabeth or up north.'

Wakefield added that he is worried that fans of the Stormers and WP are also becoming increasingly negative, and was disappointed with the amount of booing this past Saturday.

'Whichever way it goes, people must stop booing the opposition. Newlands is basically becoming "Boolands".'

 Very simple explanation.

The Cape Crusaders, or Cape Allblacks are not supporting the All Blacks or Crusaders- they are just not supporting the Springboks or anything South African.

They hate South African so much, that they just hate the opposition less. Wearing the opposition clothes is just a way of expressing this.

It is not that they suppor the Allblacks/Crusaders, it is just that they hate them less than anything South African.

During the Apartheid era perhaps it is more understandable than like 25 years after it.

Supporting Manchester against Intermilan or Madrid is nothing like in comparision

That is like Supporting England against the South African football team, or any other country against your own national team

TwatBok, your first post (the copy and paste job) is a laughable indictment of the WP rugby union and their tenuous grip on reality. Why on earth would NZ not want to play at Newlands if they have so much local support?

Your second post is just plain stupid. You're claiming these Cape Crusaders don't actually support the Crusaders yet the picture in your previous post clearly shows them wearing Crusaders kit and waving Crusaders banners. Looks like they're supporting the Crusaders to me!

Your last post just looks like a pitiful whine for some attention. Let me guess, you support ManUre? Waaaaaaaahahahahahaha!

@beeno1 aka storming ed,

"The crustacians beat our C team as I prove conclusively in my post."

this is exactly why u should leave the rugby talk for the adults, ur mind is not devloped enough to be able to grasp the picutre in its entirety.

stormers MIA list
e ezebeth, s burger, b habana, t liebenberg, p grant, s kitshoff

crusaders MIA list
McCaw, daniel carter, kerean read, israel dagg, tom taylor

so thats four All Black incumbents & one fringe All Black missing from the crusaders compared to two Bok incumbents & one former Bok player who might never return (burger).

to say nothing of the fact that on the 11min mark the crusaders lost another All Blacks incumbent owen franks & thier winger mcnicholl, but still managed to grind out a win.

if that was the stormers B team, then that was the crusaders F team.

not the dumbest thing ive read from u,  that comment about burgers mengitis was the kiwis fault is still right up there along with how the stormers won the 2012 spXV, LMFAO!!!

Please ignore ou saSUE who is clueless once more.

Rather read what keo has to say. Anyone wanting to donate money tobuy a one way ticket to get these clowns to nz should do so. Perhaps we could open a fund.

MARK KEOHANE writes the Crusaders put in a world-class performance against the Stormers at Newlands but their supposedly rugby motivated coloured Cape following were again not in the same league.

The New Zealanders remain as bemused and amused at the number of coloured locals who refuse to support the Stormers but favour the red and black of a region from the south island of New Zealand – a region whose rugby officials have been accused of selecting a minimum quota of non-white players in their side. (Also a loaded ab side)

Wellington import Robbie Freuan was as dark as it got for the Crusaders at Newlands.

The Crusaders are the most successful franchise in the history of Super Rugby. They have won the title seven times and made the semi-finals in 14 of the last 15 seasons. But their team, based on demographics of the region, has primarily been white.

I could understand the Blues, predominantly of Pacific Island origin, the Chiefs, with a strong Maori contingent and the Hurricanes, another side that traditionally included many Pacific Islands and Maori players, getting support from the coloured community in Cape Town because they felt they could identify with the demographic make-up of the side.

But the Crusaders are a white side and anyone who has travelled to Christchurch or New Zealand’s south island will tell you that the folk from that area are pretty conservative. I’ve often said the Crusaders would be the equivalent of the Bulls in South Africa, when one thinks of the traditional supporter.

I have never seen too many of the coloured community in Cape Town arrive at Newlands en-masse with a Bulls jersey, regardless of the quality of rugby they are playing or their success rate in the Currie Cup or Super Rugby.

Those who support the Crusaders have in the past mailed me to say they only support the side because of the brilliant rugby they play. I respect that and everyone has a democratic right to support just whoever they want to.

But the element who dress up in red and black, get to Newlands and act in a common and crass manner, as happened again last Saturday, do the Crusaders franchise a disservice and certainly do the team no favours.

The New Zealanders think it is a joke. They may publicly thank those misguided masses for their support but privately they find them an intrusion and an embarrassment and a mild form of entertainment.

It is the same with the All Blacks, who appreciate any support but remain baffled as to why so many in the coloured community can’t move on and support a national team in which coloured players have been among the super stars.

One of those coloured players is the legendary wing Bryan Habana, who in 2007 was the best player in the world and helped win the Boks a World Cup.

Habana tweeted his disgust at the behaviour of a section of those coloured supporters wearing Crusaders colours on Saturday for the manner at which they swore at the Stormers players, spat at them and generally behaved like common uneducated thugs.

The star Bok tweeted that he wished he could find the cash to buy them all a one-way ticket to Christchurch and rid Newlands of them for good. (Please nesure ou rooitwit gets a one way ticket asseblief ek vra!)

This group is a minority among the many coloured rugby supporters in Cape Town and they are as big an embarrassment to the passionate coloured rugby supporter, regardless of which team he or she supports. (Small and declining buch of complete TWITS)

What makes me laugh is the argument from this minority as to how they relate to the Crusaders. In which way? The same way the oke from Bishop Lavis relates to the oke from Bishops Court?

And if they relate to the Crusaders because of the quality of their rugby, then return the favour to the team and show some quality behaviour.

South Africa, as a nation, has moved on. It will never be the ideal or perfect society but then no society can make such a claim.

My message to those who live in Cape Town and aspire to be Kiwis is to make the effort to get on a plane and experience New Zealand. (Hoor Hoor)

You may find it a shock to the system to see that there is as much racial prejudice in New Zealand as there is anywhere in the world and that a traditional Cape coloured community will have very little in common with a traditional Christchurch community.

The Crusaders are primarily a white team, but if the motivation to support them is based on the way they play rugby, then would the same principle be applied to a primarily white Stormers or Springbok team, who played great rugby? I think not. (Exactly so)

I also don’t think the crass and clueless among those Cape Crusaders followers would even know how to spell the word principle, let alone know its meaning. (Well said Keo!!!)

So in simple terms, support the classy Crusaders but try and show a bit of class in your support. The players deserve that at least.

As for Habana’s wish to put these clowns on a plane, speak to your mate Johan Rupert and ask him to pay for the flights. Make it a one-way ticket because they will find that the reality of life for a coloured in Christchurch is very different to the romance of wearing a Crusaders supporters jersey once a year and calling themselves Kiwis.

Maybe saSUE that blond bunch were kiwis - ever occur to you? Doubt any kiwi, and we know how badly they behave, would spit and swear at the Stormers like these mongs.

Anyhow hope ou saSUE is getting a glimmer and will stop making excuses for these mongs. Sorry if I am insulting mongs. They are just plain old racists having a go.

As for rooitwit one hopes he will abandon his cape crusader role but I will not be holding my breath.

If they're not hurting you leave them alone to support whoever they want for whatever reason they want, hammer on about it and you'll only drum up more support for NZ teams from the demographic you're trying to convert.

Denny was a genuine refugee and at considerable personal risk. But like most Saffas he is a huge Bok supporter. The tone of Nukefree and Black and Blue seems to be that  there is something unique in the nature of South Africans which led to Apartheid. Unfortunately the South African Scottish cousins of the Scotsmen you have in NZ were also probably supporting the regime. And if this is an Afrikaner accusation, I need only point out that the Dutch  are without a doubt the most liberal people in Europe.

Apartheid came from circumstance and general human nature, not from genes. And as for the right to relive the past, I deny nobody that right. But I would counsel against it. It only serves as a hindrance to making real progress. Look forward not back.

i agree with poi-e, if theyre not hurting anybody, then why should it bother u??? each to their own, and they can cheer for who ever the fudge they want, or does that rule only apply to white SAs???

i notice that no one commented on my pointing out the white father and his two kids with the blondest of hairs wearing crusader jerseys. IMO, u cant balme any folks of any colour for wanting to support a succesful team, :o)

@denny,
racisim is everywhere and in every country, no one cand eny that and i know exactly what ur talking about with the few caucasions who dislike pacific island and maori players for no reason other then theyre coloureds, but even u cant compare the racism between the two countries, no matter what u say, u have nothing that beats the apartgheid argument. even now SA have that black empowermnet amendment which gives business sepcial favour for employing coloured folks, all part of the reap what u sow aparthied tree.

point is, the racisim in NZ is not hush hush as u make it out to be, its well known domstically, the only reason it may not be know so well abroad is cos our government condemens those views as opposed to SA well documented and checkered past.

its time to move on i agree, but if some saffas both coloured and white still want to cheer for the crusaders, then i reckon those who have such an issue with it need to get over it.

Unfortunately you get fans like this regardless of which country your in whether they be natural or adopted. Regardless while I'm sure the Crusaders welcome the support, I'm also positive that the spitting and booing of the home team by them is not welcome or accepted. Maybe SANZAR should use video evidence and ban those "spitters" for life from Stormer games, I'm positive spitting is considered a type of assault...it is in USA anyway and warrants jail time.

Sasuke, I like to read your rugby related posts. In fact, your posts are among the few on this board, that I value. Having said that, your comprehension of the South African political situation is way below your rugby knowledge mate and by saying this, I am by no means just trying to insult you.

I agree that you probably have a general idea of what the Apartheid situation was, but you have to remember that there were different stories that were "sent out". On the one hand you had the anti-Apartheid sympathisers who painted a picture of mass murder and violence by whites on people of colour. On the other hand you had the "pro-Apartheid" bunch. I use this term purely for lack of a better term. I am actually referring to the faction who was not really the anti-Apartheid group. They sent out a message that all was 100% kosher and there was no shit anywhere. Fact is that somewhere in between lays the truth.

The general perception is that Apartheid was a horrible and evil system and that everything about it was evil and that nothing good came out of it. Now, you have to take note that I am by no means going to even try and justify the system or say that it was a good system that should have been retained.

The truth is that everywhere in the world we had an "Apartheid-system" of some kind and in many places in the wolrd it still exists in some form or another. The only difference was that SA gave it a name and placed it in the law books and kept it alive for longer than any other country in the world.

The true intention was never to deny anybody decent living conditions, but unfortunately there were ulterior motives behind it, i.e. to deny certain groups the right to vote and subsequently making sure that they do not get the political power to do what was done in the rest of Africa. In reality, they did not trust the Blacks not to just start wiping out the whites, like they have actually done amongst themselves even in SA. Read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mfecane

While they were indeed oppressed and wrongfully depressed, they were never denied most of the basic human rights. They were given housing.... much better than what is the case today. When the ANC came into power they started a Reconstruction and Development Program (RDP) which, amongst others, provided for the building of houses. These houses are generally referred to as RDP houses. The contracts for the building of these houses were given to BEE companies and they were awarded left right and centre to entrepreneurs in the inner circles. Many, if not most of them are literally falling apart. One could easily say that at least the government were building houses because the evil Apartheid government never built any houses. Right? Wrong. The truth is that the Apartheid government built millions of houses. Every town had a "location". A black township were the people of colour lived. They lived in houses built by the government, and most of those houses are still standing. I grew up in a town called Witbank, about 65 miles east of Pretoria, and since I can remember (I am 56 years old) you went past the location as you enter the town from Pretoria. In other words those houses are 56+ years old, and they are still standing and lived in today. They have not fallen apart. They were not luxury houses, but they were sturdy houses nonetheless.

The same can go for the educational system. While I will not for one second deny that there was an equal school curriculum, there was a proper managed educational system. Many blacks gained university entrance from that very same "useless black education" system. That is through that very same system that the Mandelas, Sisulus, Thambos, etc of this world got university degrees and became professional people. Mandela was a practicing lawyer when he was jailed. The University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg had students of colour for many many years before 1994. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_the_Witwatersrand#The_early_years:_1896.E2.80.931922. The education that people of colour received in those days was (IMO) better than what it is in most present day schools. Before 1994 you could finish school and receive a matric (school end) certificate which qualified you to enrol at any university. Nowadays all universities expect students to pass a University entrance exam, before they are allowed entrance to any course.

Medical services were free for people of colour and the state hospitals were of a very high standard. My mother was a ward sister at the provincial hospital for many years and I have seen the wards for the blacks many times, as a kid. It was spotlessly clean and the nurses (black and white) were extremely proud and dedicated. They received proper medical care and the only difference was that there were separate wards for black and whites.

I can go on forever but I would like to stress once again that I am not trying to justify Apartheid and I can write as passionately about the wrongs of Apartheid as well. my main objective is just to let you understand that not everything about the period under Apartheid was all evil. Note that I mention the period under Apartheid and not the Apartheid system.

first off no kiwi can come on a forum like this and make rubbish statements about our country's problems if they have not even spend a day in south africa. the so called cape crusaders movements is a anti establishment movement and one can only look at the demographics and backgrounds to see that. this stems of the make believe fantasy that they dont belong that is bread from the mixed past in regards to where they orginate from.

in terms of the whole apartheid blame game the dutch where not the first adopters for apartheid but those english ^&*^&% where the first ones in 1806 to adopt the min wage serperation that basicly made the black and afrikaners earn to a quater of what did earn under dutch rule previously. apartheid first started as economic apart then it progressed to other parts of society....typical english devide and conquer tactics. the same that was appplied in all there other colonies.

its the very poor coloured community that is struggling to attain a identity in south africa that they seem to have this false sense of entitlement towards NZ and the moari as they are the biggest "foes" of the boks and the rugby establishment. even though not one of them has ever been in NZ. that being said supporting a team is your right in a open and fair country. this is not china freedom of choice is still respected here but the type of behaviour that the wannebe moaris has is not on to be frank and honest. there actions should be condemmed and SA rugby is taking the right stance in stripping cape town of all there NZ internationals. one cannot have this type of behaviour sorry to say.

Have to laugh at this ignorance! Carpetmuncher getting all upset because some Kiwis dare to have an opinion on apartheid and then he starts talking about "moaris" (sic). I mean, really!

Sasuke is 100% correct when he says you cannot compare racism in South Africa with racism in New Zealand. Apart from the fact that apartheid in South Africa was in the statutes, New Zealand's human rights record is way above not just South Africa's, but just about every European colonized country I can think of. South Africa's apartheid system meant that whites and non-whites were segregated while in America and Australia, they solved the problem by committing genocide. What atrocities did the New Zealand settlers ever commit against the Maori that can compare with Apartheid, or even worse, what the Yanks did to to the American Indians and the Aussies did to the Aborigines?

I'm not trying to say the Kiwis don't have their own issues with racism but their history isn't nearly as shameful as just about every other country that was colonized by Europeans. This shows in the fact that so many New Zealanders have both European and Maori ancestry and in general they're pretty proud of it . . . unlike us South Africans who are utterly obsessed with race and continue to entrench it in our laws and use it to incite hatred.

@Rooinek, the irony is that the day that Desmond Tutu handed over the report of the Truth and Reconsiliation Commission he said: "Never again, nooit weer nie.........." and then also repeated it in the other nine official languages. And then the ANC turned around and started doing much the same, just wrapped in a new blanket.

Indeed, it's very sad. We South Africans of all people should have known how damaging race-based legislation can be and then we went and did it all over again!
