All the usual suspects are in the finals so all fairly predictable accept for Spain....the big upset Spain beating Argentina( and Japan) to qualify for the finals with the help of a yellow card....

...NZ was'nt particularly looking good going into this tournament losing four players to injury in Dubai - a tournament NZ ended up winning with only nine men in the end...so moving on to Cape Town NZ phoning home for reinforcements...

....not a good start for NZ Day One in Cape town losing to Samoa in the first game, ...dire straits for NZ then facing the hosts SA in their other pool match  - a must win do or die game...

So plenty of drama then for NZ with a potentially historic first ever exit in pool stages of a World Series sevens men's tournament on the cards for NZ going into the game against the Blitzboks...

...Long story short the Blitzboks had the chance to send the Kiwis crashing out in the pool stages but blew their chance after SA was leading with only one minute left to play... https://youtu.be/OMdQHTEGvBo

...ended up NZ winning 26 - 21...

NZ now face Australia in the quarterfinals....SA take on Scotland

In the other quarter finals U S A clash with England and Fiji play Spain...

Well done Fiji ,,yr the best...By my calculations USA now have a narrow lead in the world sevens series by one point over NZ ,...and SA is sitting in fifth position so will have to up their game...

Next tournament in NZ at the Tron in January be there or be square..

Yes Bryc y my good friend the USA whipped your guys real bad.

imagine if the top USA athletic /football talent took up sevens!. They would put at least 50 past the wee abs.

Nice to see the USA players had pride in their anthem an nobody took a knee!

...Bean Bean after winning the SA leg of the world series ten times already it was only fair NZ give someone else a turn for a change...

And yes i would love to see more NFL players give rugby a go ...maybe the US sevens team can inspire more of them to play....problem is it does'nt pay very well in comparison and no pads or helmets might also scare them off...

Sevens has a chance of becoming the World Game.....with non traditional rugby countries, like the USA having a shot. It's so watchable, even for non rugby fans.

Agreed Mozter. Sevens is so easy to watch. Even my wife enjoys it, and she could not care less about sport in general, let alone rugby. With its popularity growing steadily and its inclusion in the Olympics, I think the money will start flowing into the game. Hopefully more money will mean wider participation.
All that said, if you look at cricket and what T20 has done to test cricket, maybe it is not such a good thing? I guess we'll just have to see how things pan out, but the 15 man game is still the ultimate sport for me.
