The Blues have confirmed Carlos Spencer as their wildcard player for next year's Brisbane Global Rugby Tens.

The 42-year-old, who hasn't played rugby since 2011, will join the team he once starred for, during the weekend-long tournament which takes place February 9-10 at Suncorp Stadium in Queensland, Australia.

"I'm looking forward to putting on the Blues jersey again for the Global 10s in Brisbane in 2018," Spencer said.

"I'm excited about putting on the jersey, playing with a bunch of youngsters and hopefully inspiring these guys to bring home that trophy."

Spencer played for the Blues from 1996 to 2005 and will go down as one of their greatest ever players, as well as someone everyone outside the franchise area loved to hate, particularly those who support the Crusaders.

After leaving the Blues, Spencer played for Northampton and then Gloucester in England.

He later moved to South Africa, running out for the Lions in 2010 and 2011.

Spencer then moved into coaching in South Africa, taking charge of the Eastern Province Kings in 2014.

Although in his 40s, Spencer still looks in good shape and while he may have lost his pace, he should still be able to delve into his box of tricks for the Tens.

Spencer is 42 years young! Is Mozart wright (sic) again?  Is this the first time, should we have a poll to assess these vital questions?
Good for Carlos but this is a little strange considering how long ago he played the game, he is in fantastic shape for his age but seriously is he the best available?

Yes, a very logical action on his part... who could  possibly disagree?
