RICHARD FERGUSON updates Keo.co.za followers on latest Super Rugby news from New Zealand.

Jane’s year long agony

Hurricanes winger Cory Jane is set to miss an entire year’s rugby due to a ruptured ligament in his right knee.

Jane has said that he given up hope of playing this year and will be focused on returning next year, after his knee injury came about during preseason training with the Hurricanes.

The only chance Jane has of playing rugby this year is if he can get back in action in time to tour with the All Blacks to Europe, but even this is a long shot in terms of a recovery and getting match fit again.

The biggest problem in Jane’s recovery is that he has not been able to go under knife as a result of persistent swelling, and this is just further delaying his return.

Saders bring in big guns

In other New Zealand news, the Crusaders team to play the Waratahs on Thursday night has been announced, with big names like Dan Carter and Kieran Read starting. The team is close to the team that will take on the Blues in their first game of the season.

The Crusaders are in the unfortunate position of having a bye in the opening round of matches, meaning that their clash with the Blues will only be on 1 March in Auckland.

Crusaders: rusaders: Israel Dagg, Adam Whitelock, Robbie Fruean, Ryan Crotty, Johnny McNicholl, Dan Carter, Andy Ellis, Kieran Read (c), Matt Todd, George Whitelock, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Owen Franks, Ben Funnell, Wyatt Crocket.

Replacements : 16. Codie Taylor , 17. Joe Moody, 18. Dominic Bird, 19. Luke Whitelock, 20. Willi Heinz, 21. Tom Taylor, 22. Tom Marshall, 23. Telusa Veianu, 24. Shane Christie , 25. Tom Donnelly, 12. Ryan Crotty, 26. Corey Flynn

Sasue

I believe Carter was injured during the EOYT - but never read anything much about the inkury in the local media.  What was wrong and why a 3 month lay-off?

@mikey,

ur mistaken their buddy, carter was never injured on the EOYT, hes been off for just a little over two months, but as i mentioned in a few threads, the crusaders never play their stars during the preseason games. instead they will give them a run here or there enough to stretch their legs, but they save them for when they really need them and thats starts with their first game of the season.
its not just carter BTW, all their stars are in similar positions with no current All black so far having played more then 60 minutes despite 3 preseason games already.

this is the storngest crusaders team they have named all year and its still experimental.

look out for johnny mcnicholl, a very good winger with a ice turn of speed and an evil step which posses both feet.
