Awesome stuff! I heard about it, then watched it online and couldn't believe he was going to do it, but he had one more stroke left in him that gave him that extra bit.

Love the emotion. It's what it's all about.

Le Clos - I was hoping for what happened - what he star this youngster is!!!!  Only 20 years old!!!!    Not for nothing was it said that he is the best SA Swimmer ever and he would have a brillaint swimming career.   And the poor bugger was crying - that must be tears of joy.

By the way - Saffex - the guy's father is a motor mech in Durban.   He and his family did not have money to go to India for the Commenwealth games - so he must also be tremendously proud of his son.

Now the Durban boykie has shown you what to do - go the Sharks and follow his example on Saturday!!!!!

Within 3 hours from winning the title in London - the following was included on him in Wkipedia:-

" Chad Guy Bertrand le Clos (born 12 April 1992) is a South African Swimmer who is currently the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Champion in the 200 meter butterfly  and Commonwealth record holder in the 50 and 100 meter butterfly.  He won gold in the 200 meter butterfly in the 2012 Olympics in London.  He also won 5 gold medals in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore".

Further background information is that after finishing school in 2010 at Westville High School in Durban - he participated in the 2011 FINA short course world series and in the process won 26 gold medals - and took top price in winning the competiton held over a five months period.   That resulted in him winning the $250 000 price money for top medal winner.

This guy is going places.   Must admit I was the one person on this site that constantly said he is going to win the 200 meter butterfly - and guess who was at home shouting him on to win.   He did it in the last 20 meters.   He was half a body length behind Phelps then and caught up with him within a meter from the finishing wall.   The SA record of 1 minute 54,45 he set on Monday (an improvement of 1,5 seconds over his previous best time) - he improved further by ,5 seonds.   In other words his winning time was 2 seconds faster than he ever swam before.   That is why I am saying he is a real star.

I have been expecting great things from this kid since he won it at the Juniors in 2010. I however did not expect a gold from him this olympics yet more as a contender for a medal. I was more thinking along the lines of 2016. But great swim chad. that was amazing to watch. Phelps impressed me just as much after the medal ceremony, taking chad around the pool kind of showing him off to everyone. Legend.
