New Zealand and the world champion All Blacks have been snubbed in an extravagant new advertisement featuring a Game of Thrones star promoting ticket sales for next year's Rugby World Cup.

English actor Charles Dance, who played the evil head of the Lannister clan in the TV blockbuster Game Of Thrones, puts in a fine performance in the World Cup advert as he delivers a passion-fuelled team talk in a rugby dressing room.

There are English, Welsh, Italian, Scotland and South African players portrayed - some of them actual internationals like Welsh prop Adam Jones - but no sign of any All Blacks.

The closest Kiwi link is England's New Zealand-born hooker Dylan Hartley. Oh, and "our" World Cup, which the All Blacks defend next year in England, is there.

There are referees, groundsmen, management personnel including English greats Martin Johnson and Lawrence Dallaglio and Scottish legend Ian McGeechan, volunteers from around Britain and supporters from Samoa, South Africa and Australia all squeezed into the room.

But no sign of any New Zealand presence in the 2m 30s extravaganza - unless you can second guess a snippet of a black sleeve at one point.

The advertisement is pushing the next wave of tickets sales for the tournament that go out to the general public on September 12.

No ABs in this ad, well that must mean we have our own ad as there is no way they won't use the  marketing power of the ABs.
I don't know why they don't have an ad about the fantastic rivalries in the game of rugby: ABs vs Boks; ABs vs. England, etc. There is enough history, blood, sweet and tears to inspire fans of any sport to but a ticket!

Blobbok: the fact they had to get an actor from a sci fi fantasy tv series (Game of Thrones) should fit right in with the thinking of one or two posters on this site, lol
Nah, there will be other ads & the ABs will be featured, they have too much marketing power to be ignored. Even kids in Poland know of the haka and the mighty ABs. Mention rugby here and they say ABs, it's like that eveywhere We may be quiet, humble & reserved but our mana is known world wide

They got an actor who portrayed an old cuckold who gets necked by his own Dwarf son in GoT and whose elder son and daughter are portrayed making themselves some new nieces and nephews with each other ,hmmmm.....some mixed messages there eh ?So maybe the message is " if you dont stop rooting each other we are all buggered ,cos the Darkness and Winter is coming...."Or maybe its like Harry Potter with the not saying the name "Voldemort " only now its " The All Blacks "....Or they might worry that folks may think its not worth going if the ABS are in it , not me though nothings writ in stone .

Charles Dance is a bit more than just a Lannister. In fact, I can think of quite a few of my Rugby friends who would only know him from the RSC or some of his many films. He just happens to have a great voice and it is a bit of fun.

May I ask, were the England team or any if the other Nations, involved in the promo for the NZ RWC tickets sales ? Because this is primarily what this ad is and also, do their tightly written contractual obligations allow them to partake in such fripperies ? Also, it is not your World Cup and it is not called Old Bill. And you don't have it, because it is in the advert...you have loan of it, say, every 24 yrs or so

And actually, what we do with our World Cup is our business, but I guess the whinging had to start somewhere and from someone, right ?

Indeed pooie on her many hands high horsie she rode ,the anti-Godiva sucking all the fun outta the room .All I see is peeps taking the mickey ,and as England Oz and SA were fond of telling us while they are champs its theirs and we will call it whatever the feck we want .And yes becs indeed the whingeing had to start from SOMEONE ....As for Charlie Dance I betcha he's not as pretentious as some of his country men/women [ seems a pretty nice fella ]And yes all the countries involved were shown in the ads for 2011 thank you ever so much fer asking.Oh and as I recall it was Australia ,France and NZ who where the driving force behind the RWC , as I recall the other members of the IRFU fought against it when it was put out there previously .Bill was an afterthought bought at the last minute from some jeweler as I recall ?BILL,BILLY,WILLYBILLY hmmmm....yeah think I will stick with Bill .
