Changed my Avatar
ur stormtrooper on the toilet was the best avatar, easily in the top 5 avatars ive seen on abs.com
i recently changed my avatar too, cos some muppets in NZ want to change the NZ flag, freaking idiots,
I would be in favour of having a flag that reflects our separate identity as a culture & nation, e.g. something that also reflects both our pacific island and European heritage. Not sure what that means in terms of a flag design though This has been debated for may years so it's not going to ch ange any time soon.
A flag is not to be changed unless there are absolute 100% reason for it.
There were two flag changes in SA and both were appropriate. The first change was in 1926 and stemmed from the bitterness attached to the Anglo-Boer War and the serious crim es against humanity committed by the English during that war. The Union Jack was regarded as a symbol of oppression by most residents - but a compromise had to be found to ensure that peace prevail. The Union Jack remained a second flag up to the 1950's - when it was finally removed.
The second flag change was in 1994 and was also understandable. The flag was in fact a compromise and embodied the ANC flag colours Green Gold and Black combined with the basic colours of Orange. White and Blue of the previous flag It was only right that the change be made and shows that historic developments can result in flag changes.
However, there is nothing in NZ history requiting a change - so why the present debate?
fair enough cuzzie but i dont agree hence my avatar change, lolz.
but the crux or the 4 stars known as the southern cross, are all seen by all pacific islands, samoa and our older and slightly retarded brothers austrlia have it on their flag too. so in a way, the pacific islands are well represented.
but to try and include other cultures within NZ into a flag which is more recognisable like the pacific islands as u mentioned, it opens the door to every single culture residing within NZ.
as we know NZ is not exclusive to pacific islanders, so there could also be the argument that other cultures be also recongised, especially as theres a bigger asian population in NZ than pacific islanders.
7% of NZs population are made up of pacific islanders, while the chinese alone make up 4%, with over an 11% asian population.
i love my flag, always have and always will, and i hope nothing comes of this, :o/
"However, there is nothing in NZ history requiting a change - so why the present debate?"
strictly my opinon, but elections are coming up, and little sideshows like this helps to distract from the more serious topics like assest selling, unemployment and poverty etc
