We need a centre who can penetrate. Play JP at 13 and make Jean the full time first receiver, too often Steppie played that role to no effect.

Play Vermaak at scrumhalf. Hougaard had the yips again and Reinach needs more space than he will ever get in tests. It's simple we need a real scrumhalf, not a retreaded wing.

Start Schalk.

Send for Willemse to join the squad and put him on the bench.

Send for Willemse and start him with Etzebeth. Agree re Schalk. Agree re JP.  Play Allende on the wing.
Think Hougaard deserves another shot. Ditto Reinach.

The side that should start against England should be:

15. Willie 14. JP 13. de Allende 12. Serfontein 11. Senatla 10. Pollard 9. Hougaard 1. Beast 2. Bismark 3. Coenie 4. Etzebeth 5. Lood 6. Kriel 7. Coetzee 8. Vermeulen

16. Strauss 17. Nkanyane 18. Redelinghuis 19. Bakkies 20. Carr 21. Reinach 22. Lambie 23. Habana

No Dave ... that's an awful side.

Lood, HouGat and Coenie are all second rate players ... just not test material.

De Allende isn't a 13.

Bakkies is old and tired.

You wanna win the test don't you? It's not going to happen with that side.

HasBEEN Hougaard and Reinach are not technically skilled scrumhalves....they are in mid career. They have had their shots, many of them. Vermaak is light years ahead as a swift, clean link. Hendriks seems to have lost his mojo after the Savea mauling, I could be persuaded to try de Allende on the wing.

Most of what we are missing is "blocky" power. The kind of strength Flip Flop and Alberts gave us last year. That power allowed us to smash over and dominate the break downs. Coetzee is also no fetcher....nor frankly is he a power blind sider. We have a big gap with the loss of Louw.

CC we don't have an option on tour, we have to have one of Bakkies or Matfield on the bench....both are useless, Bakkies less than Matfield

You are 100% wrong about Hougaard, Coenie and Lood

de Allende would make a great 13, he is not a creator, he is a finisher.....his best spot would be 13 without doubt.

My side gets rid of the deadwood and brings in the form youngsters

Of one thing I am absolutely certain - with you r team we will lose against the aEnglish by a widr margin than we lost against the Irish.
"We need a centre who can penetrate. Play JP at 13..."
What makes you think JP at 13 can penetrate?    He has shown little of that in the Welsh tests.    He had one good run when put in teh clear - and then launch a kick - for th rest in the two tests played he showed zilch penetration - so how would he pentrate against the English?   D id he show lessthan De Allnde did in the Argentina tests?

De Allende's problem was bringing up the defensive line.....look I know this is hard for you to get, but in all likelihood if we drop de Allende cold into that hostile Twickenham setting he is going to freeze. There's always a chance the ball will bounce right and he will get a confidence boost from somewhere....but it's far more likely he will be a deer in the headlights like Salta. HM can't make that kind of decision....only the peanut gallery with nothing to lose can be that bold .

Handre Pollard played just like he did when the Bulls scrambled in a panic early in the Super rugby season to scrape Jacques-Louis Potgieter from the dregs sucked out of the absolute bottom of the barrel. When your flyhalf is playing poorly, the whole team struggles. Especially in the Northern hemisphere conditions.

I dont know who is in the church of Pollard here and I dont really care - he sucks !

JL Potgieter made such a difference to the Bulls game, they even made him the poster boy on their website. I was actually waiting for his serenade - but of course - as is the case with Potgieter, his hot is hot but his cold is well.....arctic !

So, who can tell me why I think Heyneke suddenly believes Handre Pollard is the answer for the Boks - this after a decidedly average Super rugby season ? The answer my friends is blowing in the Jacaranda trees....

I think it is a shame that Pat Lambie played for the Boks. He should have packed his stuff and headed for Europe. He could have played for another country. Wasted talent due to a bone from the neck up coach.

Far too many years wasted with useless Morne Steyn as the Bo k pivot

To put Marcel in the same sentence with Vermeulen is a travesty. There is a difference between trying hard and being effective. Likewise on Stepfontein. The only thing of note he did was his break in the Aussie home test when he beat.....Horwill.

That's rich coming from you. But jeez Dave it must have been a hard seven years. You look about 15 years older. Get yourself some weights and a tread mill and look after your body for an hour four times a week. That's the best advice I can give you....before it's too late.

I am not sure why you said that Pietersen would have better penetration at 13.   H e played in that position for the S harks and th en moved back to wing in 2012 because of apparent problems with exactly the lack of penetration he showed in that position - plus some nagging problems in defnese.
Pietersen on the wing was never a pacy player - rather a strong ball carrier.   Howevr, in Japan he lost pace and I was surprised how long it took him to revoer some of his pace when returning to the Sharks this year.   Lack of pace on the wing is a problem - equally so in the number 13 position.   He did not look very good when he came on from the bench in the tsts he played in over the past two months - so I am developing a feeling that his international careeer may be on the wane.
He does well as a strong tackler when and if he has the touchline to support him.   The problem is that at 13 he would not have that prviilege and he is bound to be beaten worse by the English 11 than Smith was on Saturday.   Matter of fact he was beaten badly in a similar move by Cuthbert when playing against the Welsh at 13.
I have serious doubts about him in any position other than wing playing against similarly strong carriers witout too much pace.   Based on what I have seen of him in the Welsh tests and when he came off the bench in subsequent tests - as well as his record for the Sharks in that position about him at center.
The problem is that you always said that Serfontein's problem is lack of pace - I think Pietersen lacks pace even more than Serfontein does.   I have serious doubts if he will be more effective than Serfontein at 13 - so rather than moving Pietersen to 13 - I would have Serfontein in that position.   Neither of the two the answer though.

I'm sure JP is still quicker and has better attacking instincts. Step has been out there in 17 tests and scored one try....he is on a Wynand Olivier trajectory. The other big plus is we get rid of the twin twelves syndrome.

Sure that is possible - that twin 12 syndrome is a serious deficiency.   Two players playing the exact same style of rugby in midfireld is one too many.   Problem is neither creates any space for anybody and if Willie gets into the mix there is still no overlap - since of the the two will crashball.
There is one problem - and that is all of De Villiers, Serfontein and Pietersen run straight at the first defender - no slight variation of line to cause hesitation amongst defenders and that kills any backline attacking more.
I think Pietersen is a stronger ball carrier than either - but I am afraid his pace is too  slow to be effective.   Am afraid you are wrong about his pace.   He never was pacy - but his sojourn is causing havoc in the physical department and he lost pace as well.  Not the player he used to be - that is my problem with him.
However, Meyer is probably aware of the problem and put Pietersen on the bench to cover for Hendricks failing in the defense Deapartment - but the latter is running out of chances rapidly and is likely to be changed.

It has been subsequently proven in most matches this year that De Villiers is not good enough at 12. Do you realise how below standard his form has been this year compared to the previous years? He's clearly lost a lot of pace also. Apart from his form his decision making as a captain is bad and that was one of the main problems in the Ireland match to not slot in the 3 points.

I do agree with Pietersen at 13 though. The combination of Serfontein at 12 with Pietersen at 13 in the June internationals was great without De Villiers.

Pietersen is an excellent ball distributor with vision, flair, good defence, and good enough speed. In my opinion he is the player who is the closest to Jacque Fourie in his prime at 13.

Jerome I agree Jean hasn't been at his best this year, and maybe he has lost some pace. But  Stepfontein is not his replacement.

Yes Serfontein may not be the best alternative at 12 but you must admit he would contribute a lot more than De Villiers at this stage. I know for damn sure he would if he is played in his natural position.

Serfontein at 12 with Pietersen at 13 is fine.

Hougaardt is OK.Dont understand why you want to drop him. He is handy filling in at 9 when ruck is at the blind side and he sure can cut the line from an inside pass also dangerous with ball in hand.

He is very dangerous provided he does pick up the ball and not fumble  it like he did on Sturday.  Had an absolute disastrosus performance - like he did in 2012 - when he was dropped from the team as a scrummie.

Ever considered Le Roux moving to 13? Peiterson 13 sounds alright. Issue for SA alot of key posistions and combinations are not sorted and lack depth. 1. Tendai Metawarria 2. Andries Strauss 3. Marcel Van Der Merwe 4. Even Estebeth 5. Victor Matfeild 6. Marcel Coetzee 7. Francois Louwe 8. Duane Vermulen 9. Francois Houggard 10. Handre Pollard 11. Bryan Habana 12. Jan Serfointain 13. JP Peterson 14. Senalta 15. Willie Le Roux
