Sorry - I think the two of us posted the same info about simultaneously.
The contracting of players in the professional era does not allow local competitions to determine which teams will play Super 15 rugby. You must also remember that the ownership of teams will be privatized to about 75% private owneerhip and the investors will not want to be buggered around.
Lastly top players from especially the major teams are often out because of test obligations and that can be anther reason why the process cannot work based on the CC completion.

No credible promotion/relegation based system can be structured with only 4 teams in Super competition. Think about it this way, if you are a sponsor, why would you pour money into the weaker of those 4 teams, knowing relegation is almost inevitable. And as Dave points out the better players are already gone, so the alternative opportunities are a pipe dream.

Playing in Europe has some appeal.
However, the whole reason SA is cutting the teams is that we do not have the player depth for 6 teams. (especially in the backs). It is no longer a Super tournament like the Super12 or even Super14,15.
The ANC turned SuperRugby into a quota competition by forcing the Kings into the tournament. Australian teams and SA teams make the finals regardless of how well they perform, and regardless of merit. The log standings is a total joke. The Stormers rank number 3 even though they are actually 9th or something.
So if our teams play in Europe, we are still going to have 6 weak teams. It might be better to only have 2-3 SA teams in Super rugby, and 1 or two in Europe

I hope that this strengthens SA rugby but I agree if the players and or teams run off to Europe that is not good.

It opens up doors for all SA franchises.
It's great to have the options of leaving SR to the self righteous Kiwis and their arrogance ... while competing elsewhere.
I find it rather exciting. Can't wait to see how our boys do up north. They'll probably have the whole country's passionate backing.

The problem that might arise is that te kings and cheetahs earn a lot more money than the franchises playing in the super comp. Which could mean they buy up players from the 4 SA franchises in the comp. That would of course be poetic justice for the oft poached Cheetahs.the chances have to eb pretty high that he Kings and Free State players will be lost to the Super comp and it could be worse than that (Cheetahs and Kings buying Bulle, Stormers, Sharks and Lions players).I really think SARU as usual has not fought for SA interests. Reminds me of that bum Obummer who betrayed the USA at every turn.

Moola, CC has always supported SA rugby, but due to quota sellections, he has publicly supported the Bok opposition...at home though, he's been cheering the Boks on all along!

...i see the Aussies are spitting tacks about SA having it's foot in two competitions while they are being asked to cut off either Western Australia or Melbourne with huge impacts on their national game...they are very dirty on SA atm

I'm still waiting on the fixture list, but it will be interesting to see how the fixtures are planned out.
Don't forget that there is not clear start and end as it go's on from September to May/June with 6 Nations and Champions Cup.
Lets see if it puts bums on the seats for the cheetahs and Kings. I always hate it when games are played and there are no one to the stadium.
Some player are already eyeing their next northern club.
Lets hope they can get decent cash injection and bring some of the talent back.
Come to think about it. If the two teams work well, our 4 Super rugby teams can loan out some of their fringe players to bolster them as the 2 seasons only overlap briefly by a month or so on each side instead of losing them out right. That way we can keep our younger guys home with a taste for both instead of them heading of to Japan or Europe outright.
