Unfortunately Goosen missed 3 penaties so Chiefs are leading 10-3 very much against run of play.

Chiefs thus far looking very ordinary. Can Cheethas keep going in second half or will travel fatigue set in.

However Chiefs not looking good. Much like the Crusaders and Hurricanes and the abs themselves.

Sitting Bull and brycy what happened in this first half?

Not at all pooooie. I had a good suspicion the Cheetahs would run out of gas in the second half due to travel.

The fact is the chiefies were badly outplayed in the first half. Now that is note worthy.

Was great to see Coenie put in some very good scrums and have the chiefies going backwards.

Don't worry Beeno, the Cheetah's forgot there was a second half too, but I 'spose you try to look for any positives after a 45-3 hiding, more concerning is the lack of back line imagination from one of SA's more attacking sides, so lateral, so deep in the pocket, shuffle shuffle shuffle tackle, shuffle shuffle shuffle tackle - so easy for organised defences to defend against.

Was it just me or did Goosen have a pretty average game.  Lamibie surely has the lock on the Bok flyhalf slot.

Bean Brain is this the team that beat the not so mighty stormers and the Sharkies ? Only six tries this week but who knows Bean Brain, next week could be much worse...

Poi-e

I think Goosen was no good in the goalkicking Department and that charge down kick was very  bad as well.   I think for him to be even in contention would imply that he must get over his goalkicking problems asap.   Three misses out of four reminds me of a certain Morne Steynlast year.  I was in the main satified with the other elements of his performance - which I believe was more or less on par with that of Cruden.

Mike Cruden crafted 2 tries and generally looked more composed, Goosen looked at about the standard he did against the AB's in Pretoria last year.  OK his forward pack was getting humped round the field but he doesn't seem to want to give himself a chance standing so deep in the pocket (not sure if this is a SA thing or what) and in the second half could not find a way to combat the rush defence...I lost count of the muber of times the Cheetahs were caught behind the gain line, if he continues to not stand a little flatter he's just gonna end up shovelling shit to his outsides, and that happened...a lot today.  Between him and Pretorious they showed little ability to utilize their pods to boss phases to create space, expected a bit more from him, but as I say he was behind a well beaten pack.

Have to agree, it's another demonstartion of how clueless backline play is amongst our backs, don't get me wrong, it's not the players who are at fault, there simply aren't any coaches in the country who have the faintest idea.

Goosen's general play was fine, his goal kicking is a worry and that charge down was a fluke. He kicked it well with plenty of time on the ball. Retallick just timed his jump well and must have taken it out 4m in the air.

Flattering scoreline, but the Cheetahs backs lack imagination. It does not help having no genuine 12.

The writing was on the wall within 20 minutes. There was always only going to be one outcome in this game.

Dave, I don't think that you could honestly call a 6 try to nil scoreline 'flattering', the Cheetahs never even threatened the Chiefs tryline.  The Cheetahs were dire in the second half and the Chiefs were good value for all 5 of the tries they scored in that period.

Saffex, 6 try to nil is a hiding no matter how you look at it. Dominating in 1st half and not being able to score is demoralising and probably resulted in a psychological collapse.  Goosen had a competent game nothing spectacular, Cruden of the 2 was the better constructor of play. Constructive back play is still a problem in SA rugby.

NZL needs to invest heavily in Cruden this year. Dan Carter needs to start stepping aside and playing back up to this kid. Not the other way around as has been done for the past few seasons now.

Last year we all thought Cruden was "good" because he had SBW and Kahui outside. This year he has Akhi and a makeshift 13 (who is doing a damn fine job) in Nanai-Williams and he is still dominating games. I was a fan of Beauden Barrett to leap frog Cruden and replace Carter but I think Cruden needs to be entrusted with the AB 10 jersey and only not play if he is injured! He is gona be the future of AB rugby.

Yes, Dunedin last year against the Boks he did not look up to the skills of Dan Carter and had a pretty quiet game but that happens when you try to hard. He was trying so hard to be a Dan Carter and make a name for himself. I reckon if he knows the selectors have confidence in him to take the team forward, he will relax and play a lot better for the Ab's. Its too early to tell if Carter is starting to look "tired" but even so, he is getting older and Ab's need to replace him.

Goosen looked good when Cheetahs were on top but I never heard his name once when Cheetahs were under the pump. Why didn't he step up then to control the game for his team? Those that say he is better than Lambie dont know what they are talking about. End of story!

Agree Boklogic about Goosen. He looks like he's been lacking big match time and hence the experience to take a match by the scruff of the neck and direct play, Lambie on the other hand does exactly that. However it's early days and the deeper we get into the Super 15, I expect Goosen will step up...big time. Although I saw earlier today that Morne Steyn has found his running game....he looked positively bewildered when he got up from scoring that try.

@Saffex. So, at what stage did you think te writing was on the board? 79 minutes and 58 seconds?

@Boklogic. Agree about Goosen. When going got tough, the tough was nowhere to be seen. I agree that Goosen is a real talent, but I think too much was made of him too soon. They should have waited a year or two. No matter what we think or do not think about Naka, and no matter how useless he is as a coach. He was correct last year when he said that Goosen should not have gone to Australasia.

Goosen looks totally out of depth at S15 , let alone at  international level. If he's the future Bok fly-half then you blokes have problems. He was totally outplayed by Cruden who engineered 2 great tries. Getting a kick charged down is not a fluke! Goosen hit it far too low in the first place! Lambie is a class above him at this stage.

The star of the show was undoubtedly the "oft criticised by Mike" Retallick who was all over the park and showed great skill and athleticism. What say you Mike?

HA ha ha this is friggan priceless...cant help but wonder what kind of gnarly crap you smoke, must be some wicked shit my brother. Anyway back to reality. Have to say Cheeters looked awsome in the first half had chiefs defence looking stretched....however halftime regrouping for the chiefs sorted there shit out. Have to agree Crus looked crap and clueless, and Hurricanes...well havent seen much of anything from that team for years now

Cheetahs are clueless and unstructured their big proble is they do not have a coach just a second string hooker who thinks he is a coach.  Unless they start playing as a team they will lose more games.  Goosen without steroids is as rubish as my bru Jantjies.  Lambie and the Cat are better than these two.
