We cautioned the Lions supporters the CC is no measuring stick. Those who wished to put Jantjies and Taute straight into the Bok team. Those who wanted Strauss as Bok captain. I never watched the whole game, but enough to see the familiar pattern of Strauss losing the ball in the tackle and Taute being scythed down with ease. Now, if anything, Adrian Strauss is looking like a Bok captain.

The Cheetahs were a menace at the breakdown and a joy to behold passing the ball. It looks like Super rugby is going to exit from Johannesburg. What a just reward that will be for our maipulated rugby administrators.

Moz do you expect Taute to score every time he gets the ball? Man you do speak a load of rubbish. Taute did a good job from the back. Jantjies was as good as he has been all season and so what Josh dropped a ball - for the rest he was all over the park as he usually is. Strauss as Bok captain - yeah right so you would have him start ahead of Bismark and Chiliboy would you.

Just as a matter of reference, who should Taute be emulating ie which player at S15 level beats his man everytime he gets ball in hand.

What we will witness from now on is your pathetic attack on Taute, Strauss and Jantjies everytime they play.....much like we have had to follow every time Spies, Olivier, Fourie, Mvovo, Kruger, Flip, Greyling, etc play.

Its tiresome Moz........and quite pathetic that you expect Taute to beat the world everytime he gets the ball in hand. Did Jean beat a tackle today? NO

More to the point, do you really expect this average Lions side to beat other sides out there? The few stars in the side like Jantjies, Taute and Josh spend their time living off scraps or defending all game.

Cheap-shot Jantjies just isn't as good as made out to be. Looks like another Pretorius sort of fellow. Nothing personal, I think he is talented, but simply well overstated. Currie Cup form is never an indicator of test or super credentials. Taute is okay, nothing special and Strauss is a very ineffective loose-forward; certainly one of the least effective we have. The Lions have had glut of possession in many games but failed to live up to the hype.

We've heard it all before with media hypes like Gaffie Du Toit and wunderkind Derrick Hougaard leading the charge as being highly  talented, now it's Jantjies, Taute and Josh Strauss. Make a couple of darting runs and pass the ball ala Jantjies and you're talented  ready for Bok duties. I really don't know what Josh's claim to fame is but some had him as Bok captain! And if you add Taute to the list of our most talented then compared to  what I've seen from the Kiwi talent pool we're in deep shyte!

Go the Cheetahs for playing rugby the way it is supposed to be played! Well done!

Hakwa, do you still believe Josh should be the Bok captain?

Card, I take any of your takes on players with a pinch of salt. You have set that precedent with Bismark. Taute just ok, bwahahaa and then we have Jantjies as a cheap shot and in the same breathe you will tell us how great bog ordinary Morne is - the player that has done nothing all season and whose highlight today was the chip kick that lead to Olivier's try.......one he executed in the confidence that a penalty was ensuing.

Get real, Jantjies and Goosen are so much better.

Josh continues to impress with his physicality, would love to see him in the Stormers or Bulls side

Actually Dave I don't think Strauss would make the Stormers or Bulls sides. As for his namesake from the Cheetahs, I have him pegged just behind Bismarck and ahead of Chilli. I think Adriaan Strauss is a hell of a player and today he looked like a respected leader.

Strauss is good, but I prefer Chiliboy.

Josh would easily make the Bulls side ahead of Potgieter at 7 and he is better than Elstadt for the Stormers, who is a lock

Denny, you have to take S15games in context, Josh did outplay his opposite number 8 Van der Walt in some (not all) areas - he ran 25metres compared to Van der Walt's 18, he made 2 turnovers compared to Zero for Van der Walt, he managed to beat 3 defenders compared to Van der Walt's zero.

However, Van der Walt managed to do 14 tackles compared to Josh's 3, Van der Walt missed only 3 tackles compared to Josh missing 4 tackles. Both won lineout where the ball was thrown to them but Van der Walt managed to steal one opposition throw.

Both did not give away any penalties.

IMO Josh is still a candidate for a Boks jersey, it may not be as strong as you think but he is still a candidate! although I concede he suits a very particular game plan and not the traditional bash and pash style LOL

To be honest with you, this match-up is not worth mentioning; Strauss and Walt are very ordinary 8s. I don't think south Africa has many good 8s. This is one of the reasons why I wanted Schalk at 8. His strongest attributes are his positional play, ability to make the tackle, and his linking play. He would be a great Bok 8. Spies doesn't offer you good distribution, just power running and a bit of grunt. Had we a distributor and link like Van Niekerk it would completely augment our threat level.

Josh loses the ball in the contact situation just a little too much for my liking. For those of you who fancy him as Bok captain, should ask themselves if he is better than the encumbents loosies, ie. Spies, Heinrich, Schalk and Willem Alberts. At hooker, I would definitely play Bissie there but will be at a loss for who to choose between Chilli and Adriaan as they are both in such good form. Maybe Chilli might just edge Adriaan on Test experience alone.

Someone's like is anther one's dislike or so it seems when we debate the abilities of players. I've yet to see anything from Josh to realise a Bok jumper and I hope his supporters are not basing their like on his CC form. I'd  throw Adriaan Strauss's name into the hat for Bok captaincy, his ability to lead from the front has been proven over several years with the Cheetahs and his form from one year to the other has been consistently great. My choices for Bok captaincy would be Jean De Villiers, Schalk or Adriaan Strauss. The best #8 we had was Big Joe van Niekerk and perhaps Skinstad, I'ts a position in which we struggle. Spies has been a huge letdown but perhaps our only option.

I have to agree with Aristokrat on quality of number 8's we have in sa. For me an 8 needs to have ball skills, he needs to be both ball carrier, fetcher and an hybrid of a centre. Especially when your 8 can break of the back of the scrum and attack the advantage line while making an offload in the tackle.
