How much can a team stand being repeatedly raped of all it's best players before it starts impacting on the quality of their game is the question..


...tragic for Cheetahs fans not to mention fans of the Pro14 competition to watch what could be a slow descension into mediocrity ... with Raymond Rhule, Sergeal Petersen, Mapimpi earlier departures,  now Scarlets have signed Cassiem and Blommetjies....Francois Venter has also signed with Worcester and Tom Botha signed with Ospreys...


 sad to see the all these high profile players being enticed away...the way things are progressing even the Kings will be kicking their butts soon...maybe if they got Willie Le Roux back again it would stop the rot...


...On a brighter note the Cheetahs were victorious over Cardiff Blues 29 - 27 on the weekend thanks to a penalty try at the very death in the 87th minute... the Cheetahs are third in their conference with the top three in each conference going through to the playoffs..

Clayton Beer Boepetjies is no major loss. He seems more like a pub team player that is not very fit.

...difficult to see where he will fit in at Scarlets with Halfpenny, Williams, Evans, McNichol etc...they already have outside backs to burn

They have done a lot better than I expected. To make the playoffs in their first season is a pretty  decent showing. Especially, considering how far down the pecking order they are in SA rugby. Brycy, they have been getting their resources raided since the start of the professional era. Previously by the bigger SA unions, now by pretty much everyone. It is nothing new for them, but i t is a sad thing, because they'd probably consistently be challenging for top SA honors if they'd been able to hang on to their best players over the years.
Yet another unfortunate victim of the professional era.

 I  HAD HOPED THE MONEY EARNED N EUROPE WOULD HELP THEM KEEP THEIR PLAYERS. WHAT A PITY AS CHEETAHS COULD BE VERY POWERFUL UNION OTHERWISE.

We are impressed with the the fight in Cheetahs and how they have performed this year.  We expect them to beat Munster next weekend.  (not that they are better then us but circumstances ). 

It is very unfortunate for Cheetahs to lose players to the NH and it will continue.  Especially as the players are now playing in our playground.   Looking forward to the next 3-5 years the future will be dictated on will they be allowed to compete in the European Championship Cup.  

If they are allowed in then I would be a lot less worried about them and be more concerned with your Super rugby teams.  Follow the money.   I can see a big drain towards the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings.   Enough of the top players will want to play in the Northern Hemisphere as the money and opportunities are life changing.

The situation is from a SA perspective bad. insofar as the exchange rates with foreign countries are concerned.   Under the previous President there was  a determined effort to steal money from  especially the State-owned Enterprises - the rogues were in fact protected by the President himself.

  The whole programme effectively destroyed economic growth in SA  and came near to bankrupted the state.    The result was that the currency of the country insofar as exchange rates was effectively reduced to virtually junk status.
That makes foreign employment opportunities vey attractive for SA sportsmen.   Even if they are not leaving SA participation in competitions like the Indian Premier League (cricket) makes them in SA terms very wealthy.   They normally save their foreign earnings and when returning to South Africa they are known to use foreign earnings as there "pension", buy farms, etc.
It is not entirely a problem as it gives opportunities to other players to come to the fore.   The players are not given opportunities either because of the policy where quota selection is required.   In terms of that system a certain number of players other than Whites must be selected and SA teams are not allowed to make s\merit selections.    The players hence try to earn their places in foreign sides by going to NH countries at a relatively early age.
Be it as it may - it is better for SA sportmen to earn money in foreign countries and it has another advantage - they add value to foreign country club performances.
I saw a whole contingent of Irish supporters at the George Munster-Kings game and I am sure they are enjoying there visit to one of the most beautiful areas in SA - known as the garden route.   They can travel from there to Cape Town - spent a few days there and then go on to Bloemfontein - the city of flowers.     At least that would be my  suggested tour programme.
