Willie opened up  a few gaps, but passes were spilled....he made one superb tackle, but missed a few.

Both wings were not worth a damn. In one short stretch Rhule lost the ball and never attempted to get across to tackle. A few minutes later he totally failed to read the telegraphed cross kick for a try. The other guy was just as bad.

The centres were a tad better, but the Rebels figured out the patterns and were on top of Venter.

Goosen missed a bunch of tackles...he really has poor technique and his atrocious kicking took the Cheetahs out of the game...there is very little positive other than him lasting for the game.

Coenie and Strauss were the pick of the Cheetahs, doing massive work.

Poor Lood by contrast was ineffective in contact, and robbed of the ball several times....is this another hype job.

The loosies made lots of tackles. But Labuschagne made a mistake which led to a try. Van der Walt tried hard, Lappies tried hard....but they were pretty ineffective. When he came on Cook did a few good things...but how poor was his corner flagging tackle. When will our guys learn to go low close to the line, when it's the last tackle option.

The whole of the Cheetahs seem to be in dissaray this year. They struggled in their warm up games and couldnt get to fire on all cylinders.Thing is,I wonder if they are not trying to hard this year.Last year I think the "we have nothing to loose" mentality brought in a fighting spirit, but now it seems as if they just lost all sense of direction and only focus on individual play.I also think the hype with Willie isnt helping the team. Some how every one exspects him to bring the magic every game. Before all of the hype...he was just a guy from Boland happy to get a run. They need to go back to the basiscs and retrieve the team spirit.

Like the Bools before JLP....they aren't being helped by a panicky, inconsistent flyhalf.

So in two weeks we have Lood on the positive side of the equation and after the Rebels game a hype? Oh boy, the less said the better

Team spirit is not the issue. The Cheetahs do not have the personnel to execute their gameplan. The halfbacks are not dictating play, the centres are not creating space, the wings are not threatening anyone. Willie is out of position and failing exactly as predicted. The Cheetahs rely on a highly mobile hit-and-run approach that is dependant on speed, accuracy and deception. And to top it all off, Goosen is the new over-hyped would-be Messiah. The same story as always.

Sure

The Cheetahs lost their first two games last year badly and then came back and won all all three their other tour matches in a row.   The game against the Rebels was a repeat of what happened against the Chiefs last year and their tour matches is less tough than they were last year.

It may be a repeat - but who knows.   Definitely not Mozart and Dim Sun Tzu.   The teams they support was shit poor thus far and both manufacture junk mail to run down Cheetah players 0 while ignoring the worse performances of their favourites .  Standard fare that one.

Yes Dave, two weeks ago Lood had a decent game....yesterday he was manhandled in a way we don't expect of Bok locks. It's called being honest.

Oom I'm not saying the cheetahs are lost(but they probably are) ..I'm saying many of the players are being exposed. Look at the fuss you raised when I challenged Goosens nerve...I hope you saw that kick yesterday OOm.

I did not raise a fuss about Goosen - I said his goal kicking is not acceptable and he seems  to be avoiding contact - maybe he has learnt more from Morne in that regard than anything else,

However, your constant running down of Cheetahs players are hopelessly off track.  Why don't you occasionally look at the mess some of your favoured players are making and comment on that as well?

No Oom I'm talking about his play in the 2012 tests, when all these frailties were apparent to the balanced observer. You denied exactly the points you are now making.

Manhandled?? that is a joke and is anything but honest, he was not even close to being manhandled.......he had a solid enough game, bloody hell all players lose ball in contact, just like Jean missed 50% of his tackles on Sat........Lood was huge all of last year and has continued that form this year

But kindly point out the exact points at which he was man handled......I have the game on tape

The ball was ripped off him twice....he didn't lose it....it was ripped out of his grasp, once in a lineout....once in general play. And he was subbed early.

You call yourself a balanced observer - I have never heard that claim before - but one thing is clear - your rip into players you do not like and not into layers you like.   That puts a serious strain on the word "balanced."

I think you will find that when he took it in the line-out the ripping took place when he was transferring the ball to the next player for a lock never takes a ball and sets up a maul himself, he transfers it.

Saying that equates to being manhandled or that the player suddenly has question marks against his strength is a laughable.

Being subbed in minute 50 along with the loosehead is hardly a measure of ability or how he was playing........he has had two great games and one solid game......he is not going to shine every game..........show some faith for goodness sake

Frankly all I saw was the opposition jumper ripping it off him. He never looked particularly authoritative in contact generally, to my eye. But let's see how he goes....the proof is in the pudding.

Morné has always played flatter than Goosen when called on to do so. Another whimsical tall tale from Michael. The issue is that you are only just starting to see now what was observable two years ago. Slow on the up-take Mr.Clever.

Where do you get th following fiv from:-

"Morné has always played flatter than Goosen when called on to do so. Another whimsical tall tale from Michael. The issue is that you are only just starting to see now what was observable two years ago. Slow on the up-take Mr.Clever. "

Steyn was so bad in that regard that Meyer said before the Ellis Park test that he instructed Steyn to play flatter.   Would that be said in public - if it was not the case that Morne always stood so i deep I the pocket he mi ght as well be in the car park.

Mone always was way too deep in the pocket and since he always received the ball standing still - his passes to the 12 was always in the "hospital pass" category.

You appear to be confusing yourself, as always.

"Mone always was way too deep in the pocket and since he always received the ball standing still - his passes to the 12 was always in the "hospital pass" category."

Always? Are you sure about that? I want some proof. I know what the answer really is, but I want to at least see you try prove it. I do have footage of Lambie sitting a good 5 metres too deep, but nothing of the sort of Morné. And the other problem, Morné doesn't throw hospital passes; He takes the contact! I still laugh when I think of Goosen cheaply setting up Taute with a slow pass with three defenders ready to smash him in like a Coke can. No Michael, you tried to bring facts but instead pulled out another blooper. A piece of advice, never ever pull out the 'always' card unless you have the evidence ready to prove it. The net result is you sound emotionally unstable. Hyper-emotionality is never a good basis for any kind of thought.

You have footage - OK go and watch the games against the English in 2012 and also the RC tests in 2012 - before Morne was given the boot by Meyer = he way standing way deeper than any other flyhalf I have ever seen in any SA teams.

And for you to say that Morne takes contact is far-fetched.  If he really takes contact he would attack the gain line himself - and that is not a thing Morne ever does.

Because of -

*   the lack of variation in his game;

*   the fact that Morne never attack anything;

*  the fact that hje stands too deep in the pocket and never is on the move when he gets the ball; and

* he is slow in execution - since he is a poor reader of games and not an instinctive player = and the result is a slowing down of the ball,

the opposition loosies go for the 12 as does the opposition 12 - so by time the latter poor bugger gets the ball - he is being tackled by three players - not one.  That is what is known as hospital passes - a Morne speciality.

Anybody seeing anything else  in Morne's game is daydreaming.

I can't recall JdV ever being tackled by 3 players. Why? Not because of Morne on the run....but the Bok/ Bull kick and chase has to be respected. And Morne is the best exponent of this style of play.

Kick and chase - sure that is supposed to be the case.   But when Morne kicked the balls - he normally kicked it too far and chasing is just not feasible.   Or like the Dunedin test when the commentators said about two of his kicks - "it is bullshit".

Morne extremely rarely made a decent strategic kick that produced positive follow-up results.  His  kicks basically have two effects - counter-kicks or counter-attacks.  Both of those have normally got breakeven or worse results for his team.

If kicking was the only requirement for a flyhalf - then he is OK - but kicking is not the only requirement for flyhafs.   In all other components of flyhad pla y he always was and always will be a medium to poor flyhalf.
