School boy rugby union participation dropped ~90% in 10yrs in Australian schools. Private schools use to field 5-7teams per year group - now 1 or 2. Soccer / AFL / Rugby League taking much of the talent... why?? I dont know... lifestyle and money in Rugby better than RL and probably walk away with more brain cells in tact especially v League.

Have you tried good physio with strengthening / conditioning pilates / core work regime? - my girl is excellent I do it twice a week (for last 3yrs...) and frankly never been in better shape... I also switch between fit ball at office and "Herman Miller" chair when sitting for long periods...
The sciatica comes and goes but the clinical physio is the key... its covered by BUPA too ...
I had a mate go to Germany for a back op which has worked well - I cant remember details other than was cutting edge technique the aussie surgeons arent quite as advanced in the field as "ze germans"...
I've tried everything, physio, daily stretches lasting upto 1.5hrs, chiro.....all with mixed results. I've dreaded a back op but I have no choice.

Considering we supposedly have only one sport we did well at the cricket world cup ,netball and olympics too .

There is a problem - the Australian coaches will normally come from the Reds (already have a NZ coach), the Brumbies or the Rebels (already having an SA Coach). The Brumbies seems to have had better success in Super Rugby this year - but they were also badly beaten in the quarter-finals and got there because of the conference system,
I cannot see any real coaches coming out of Australia - Larkham perhaps, but I cannot see him getting anywhere. The problem is still - clear up the administrative mess from the top to the bottom and then get a real coach to start improving rugby in Australia.
ok - re Brad Thorn... technically a brissy boy - went to high school with a mate of mine and really madea name in rugby league with broncos / qld and even australian team in RL.
I think the enticement to play for ABs led him back to sth island to play for cruds and ABs...but...
Very much a queenslander at heart - he has a good yougn squad this year...hopefully can clock a few wins.....
