Chiefs coach Dave Rennie expects the strain on his side's injury ward to ease in time for Saturday's Super Rugby game against the Lions.

The two-time defending champions have received mixed news on the injury front, with Liam Squire still in doubt with concussion problems, joining a host of others with head knocks.

However, Rennie says the load is starting to lighten.

"We're hoping Kane Thompson may be available, Tanerau Latimer will be back this week, Tawera Kerr-Barlow should be right, Charlie Ngatai's possible and there's a question mark over Tiks ."

"That's more positive than last week."

Dave Rennie says the next 24 hours is important for those who are in doubt, with the side named on Thursday.

Would'nt be surprised if Tiks Tikorotuma is rested as most of those dodgy forward pass tries were scored on his wing suggesting with that bandaged knee he wasn't 100% last week and was brought back too early.
