Chiefs Center Faauli suspended for four weeks

The following from news24:-
"The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee has accepted a guilty plea from Jonathan Faauli of the Chiefs for contravening Law 10.4(e) Dangerous tackling of an Opponent, after he was Cited during a Super Rugby Match at the Weekend. 

Faauli has been suspended from all forms of the game for 4 weeks, up to and including Saturday 29 April 2017.

The incident occurred in the 27th minute of the match between the Chiefs v Bulls played at FMG Stadium, Hamilton on Friday 1 April 2017.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee of Nigel Hampton QC (Chairman), Stefan Terblanche and Stephen Hardy assessed the case.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Nigel Hampton QC ruled the following: 

"Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the citing under Law 10.4(e) Dangerous tackling of an Opponent." 

"With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of 6 weeks. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player's early guilty plea, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to 4 weeks."

"The player is therefore suspended for 4 weeks, up to and including Saturday 29 April 2017.”

All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to the Foul Play Review Committee to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the Foul Play Review Committee.

The question arises was Faauli given a card (red or yellow) during the match, so I checked ESPN and found he was not.  The immediate question remains.  How does it  happen that a player gets a four-week suspension for dangerous play and the referee takes no action after such a serious incident.  

Is it incompetence or just plain crooking.

It was a shoulder high shoulder charge. It happened in the 27th minute so a card would have had an impact on the game.

 JW - Thanks for the clip,  refs should not miss incidents that result in four weeks bans subsequently.   It shows incompetence or worse.
In any event the ball was already gone and the issue was at least a late tackle without even a penalty being awarded.   Does not show up the referee as being competent.      

I recorded the game and replayed that incident a number of times.
It is indeed shocking that it was "missed"  by the officials.
I for one think it is high time that "OFFICIALS"  should also be held to account for their decisions or lack thereof.
A high tackle is one thing but a late, high and no arms hit is blatant thuggery.

Well well well. No surprise of course as yet another dirty kiwi rugby player is brought to book after being missed by the bent down under ref.
This is all very unsavoury, what with sex drinking and thuggery on regular display from the odious kiwi rugby players.Perhaps ED should open a separate section where posts regarding weekly kiwi misdeeds can be aired by those who don't find the stench too much. 


The worst is the defence one so often finds for this behaviour and on top of that it's the very very light sentences which these miscreant kbbs applaud so loudly.OH the baseness of the kbbs! A big dark stain on the noble game!

Yes, Brycy we have come to expect more from Beeno he's let all SA posters (aka sabbs) down & this should be noted. SA posters please go easy on Beeno - but not too easy

Brycy....to be fair it was illegal, dangerous and a no arms attempt to stop Serfontein.
By not referring it or calling it out the officials showed just how low the standard of refs have dropped not only in NZ but in OZ and SA as well.
Something has to be done to improve the standard and above all to ensure a level playing field for all teams.
Some players have received RED, YELLOW cards for high tackles that are not dangerous, as a result the game has swung to the other team.
Officials must be fair and consistent not influence the result.
