Masaga leaving Chiefs for Japan

Chiefs winger Lelia Masaga is yet another All Black who will pack his bags for Japan at the end of the season, agreeing to join Honda after the current Super Rugby season.

Masaga is the second high profile Chiefs player to join Honda after Richard Kahui confirmed a similar deal at the start of the season.

Coach Dave Rennie has wished the player well, stating that it is a fantastic opportunity for him and his family.

It is not only money that attracts players to Japan.    Richarf Kahui said on Re-union that the light player schedule in Japan is attracting players too.  They play half the games they would have played otherwise for five times the money they get paid by the home Unions - franchises.

masaga is a fringe player and getting on in his years, its natural for players like him who have stayed in NZ for a decent ammount of time to be up for All Blacks contention, to cash in on their skills while they still can.

kahui is very similar to bekker, injury has plagued his career, so a lighetr a workout while getting paid some big cash is nothing but smart.
a shame though cos when hes fit hes an All Black incumbent easy, and his All Black career is now well & trully over consdiering the NZ backs production line.
