Nanai-Williams starts at centre for Chiefs

Tim Nanai-Williams looks set to fill Sonny Bill Williams place this season

The Chiefs have announced their first Super Rugby team of the season for their opening match against the Highlanders in Dunedin on Friday.

The Chiefs have named Tim Nanai-Williams to start at centre, after a solid performance in last week's trial against the Hurricanes.

Chiefs' midfielders, Bundee Aki and Charlie Ngatai have both been cleared to play while Andrew Horrell, Robbie Robinson, Brendon Leonard, and Richard Kahui all remain out injured.

Bundee Aki, winger Patrick Osborne and hooker Rhys Marshall will all make their Super Rugby debut this Friday.

Chiefs' coach Dave Rennie said, "It's good to finally start the competition. I know the boys have been training hard and are looking forward to getting stuck into it, especially our new caps."

very strong team despite the many changes, in the starting 15 alone there are 7 players not there from the team destroyed the sharks.

big gamble putting gareth anscombe in at FB, i dont rate him but if anyone can get the best from him it will be rennie and smith.

awesome to see patrick osbourne get his first start in super rugby, the crusaders dropped the ball big time letting him slip thorough their fingers, especially with maitland gone and zac in rehab.

bundee aki gets a chance to strut his stuff, theres some big raps on this dude, but im still a little iffy.

but one of the big surprises for me was the selection of sam cane over latimer. canes is a star on the rise, buu latimer is a porven performer game in and game out.

considring the number of injuries the chiefs have to their frontline players, im surprised they can still name a team as strong as this, makes u wonder whats going to happen once they get schwalger, robinson, horrel, leonard and kahui back.
